The study, which used data from summer 2009, revealed that Manhattan has the worst air quality, especially in areas with lots of skyscrapers like Midtown and lower Manhattan.
The study showed high concentrations of elemental carbon, nitric oxide, nitrogen dioxide and ozone, released primarily from vehicles and buildings.
“It’s important to remember that all New Yorkers have a stake in improving the City’s air quality,” said New York City Health Commissioner Dr. Thomas Farley in a release. “Exposure to the pollutants evaluated in this report can cause grave health problems, including cardiovascular and lung diseases, and premature death.”
The report suggests increasing public transit efficiency and encouraging more bike riding as a way to reduce emissions.
Wow, I never new that…
again with the bike riding, lets see a study on how much pollution is caused by eliminating car lanes causing traffic congestion for autos, our mayor is truly out of touch, almost as much as ed koch is regarding allowing the mosque to be built, he was wrong on obama and admitted so after the fact and after campaigning for him, he will have to do so again after its to late, funny how most americans & the rest of the world is watching (some laughing) as most know & understand it all about symbolism not about religious freedoms
