Jerusalem – Rabbi Ovadia Yosef: Abbas and Palestinians Should Perish From This World

    38

Jerusalem – Shas spiritual leader Rabbi Ovadia Yosef denounced upcoming peace talks with the Palestinians, which are set to start September 2 in Washington, and called for Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas to “perish from this world,” Army Radio reported overnight Saturday.

“Abu Mazen and all these evil people should perish from this world,” Rabbi Ovadia was quoted as saying during his weekly sermon at a synagogue near his Jerusalem home. “God should strike them with a plague, them and these Palestinians.”

The Shas spiritual leader also called the Palestinians “evil, bitter enemies of Israel” during his speech, which is not the rabbi’s first sermon to spark controversy.

In 2001, the spiritual leader of the ultra-Orthodox faction gave a speech in which he also called for Arabs’ annihilation.

“It is forbidden to be merciful to them,” he was quoted as saying. “You must send missiles to them and annihilate them. They are evil and damnable.”

The Palestinian Authority had condemned the speech as racist and inciteful.

Meanwhile, Interior Minister Eli Yishai, also from Shas, earlier this week also remarked on the forthcoming peace talks with the Palestinians, saying that Shas would oppose extending the West Bank settlement building freeze due to expire in late September.

Yishai has suggested that Israel would continue construction in the main settlement blocs likely to remain part of Israel in the framework of a peace deal, but freeze construction in outposts or more remote settlements.

    **UPDATE**
Following Rabbi Ovadia Yosef’s comments against Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, a senior PA source told Ynet that “even in Israel they have already stopped paying attention to this fool.”

If somone who makes such stupid and dangerous comments is “the greatest leader we have”, hashem yarachem on klal yisroel since we are really in bad shape. Doesn’t he care about the recprecussions of his statements (which any “leader” would obviously focus on before opening his mouth.

I think that his remarks are 100% right, but please why in the world should a leader that’s considered in the world as israels spiritual leader say such commands? This can not bring any goods for a land that constitutional and democratic!
    (Even the supreme
leader of Iran Ayatullah al-Udhma Khamenei would watch not to say such commands…)

to all oy big fans lets look at it this way saying this is contradicting himself as he is someone who supported sinai oslo and gush katif for a few dollars for his mosdos which costed thousands of jews their lives and still is. Where was your voice then? Now this”gadol” starts screaming instead he should stand up and publicly apologize to the victims families close down shas and step down from any public position not to seek more honor from quoting people ke r’meir kahana z’l chabad rebbe ect.

I am sure that Chacham Yosef has a reasonable explanation for saying something that on the surface seems to be the most stupid thing one could say.

He still needs to do teshuva for enabling the oslo accords that killed over 1000 jews. That’s right, Rabin could not have done it without his 17 seats in the kneset and his clear halachic approval.

I bet if you go back to the original speech you will see that this is not exactly what he said. Keep in mind that this information originates from Haaretz, whose journalistic integrity is nil. There have been similar situations in the past, and I went back and checked the speech. It was completely out of context.

What a foolish thing to say.
As if there’s no G-d involved!
Are you one of those that blame the gedolim of pre-war Europe for advising Yidden not to go to America in the 1920s and 30s?
Gedolim make decisions based on what they perceive is the correct thing..sometimes Hashem wants otherwise.
Maybe it was the fact that virtually no frum yidden prayed for Oslo to work..that turned it into a disaster.
Yes..the same G-d that made the miracles of the 6 day war..could’ve made peace work as well. Lev Malachim V’Sarim B’Yad Hashem.

Kol ha’kavod to R. Yosef! Based on new information, i.e. Oslo’s disastrous results, he is changing his position. I wish all Rabbaim could change their opinions when they see they were mistaken.

    Not helpful at all.

Rav Ovadiah Shlit”ah has traditionally had difficulties containing his thoughts. I don’t think any of us are worthy enough to ch”v knock such a Talmid Chochom Atzum of Rav Ovadiah’s caliber, but it definitely comes across as unhelpful and even provocative. You rarely hear other Gedoilim express themselves in such a manner, but, again, to each his own.

Klal Yisroel definitely needs ‘rachmei shomayim’. These are obviously very trying times.

    “YESHIAS HASHEM K’HEREF AYIN!!!”

We just need to believe, and improve ourselves in being kind to one another, Tznius, refraing from talking during davening, and, most importantly, putting all forms of ‘machloikes’ behind us, especially those that pit father against son (sometimes even husband against wife), brother against brother, business partner against business partner all for the sake of proving something about their Rebbes which I’m not quite sure yet what precisely that would be, and we’ll definitely be liberated. Is it really worth it to create such a row in a family for the sake of some cause which, in the grand scheme of things, won’t benefit you? Does it REALLY matter to you that your Rebbe’s rival went to visit another Rebbe and was apportioned Kuved Meluchim? Does that make any statements regarding YOUR Rebbe? Why do people who are otherwise successful and astute businessmen or professionals suddenly start acting in so childish a manner?
This is the biggest ‘ra’ayah’ that there something dark and sinister about it, and it is all ‘ma’asei soton’. Otherwise it would have no explanation. We therefor need to be especially ‘mischazek’ in that regard.

May we hear only Besoirois Toivis, and may we be ‘zoiche’ to do Teshiveh B’shlaimis these ‘Heiligeh Tehg’ and to be ‘mamlich’ Hashem Yisborach on ourselves ‘b’emes’. And may we be ‘zoiche’ to Bias Moshiach Tzidkeini B’mheiru B’yumeini. Umein!

(Sorry for chewing on your ears. Couldn’t control myself.)

we should be diplomatic with the arabs? what has it gotten us? the lubavitcher rebbe said, in connection to”peace talks” with the arabs, that a diplomat is someone who tells you to go to gehenim in a way that you’ll want to go! we have to know, really know ,that these sonai yisroel will never make real peace with us till moshiach comes.

No one is saying that they have to love us.
It means coming to a realization that life until now has been unbearable and it would be better for us to come to some kind of understanding.
    Like Egypt and Jordan…
If you would have told someone in Europe 100 years ago that France and Germany would be living together in peace sharing one currency they would have never believed you.
But after 2 world wars and the glaring realization that said..we can;t live like this anymore..it happened.

commen sense not,how can you begin to compare the european mind set with that of arabs who are not interested in peace, quality of life or something better for their children? they will never be able to “come to some kind of understanding” because they think martydom is apex of existence.

While that is certainly true for some..it’s not the case for most.
Egypt and Jordan have managed to..

commonsense is not common, not the case for most?! what kind of wishful thinking is that ? even if that were true, the crazy jihadists suppress and kill anyone who doesn’t agree with them. esther

He can omly say “send misiles” if he beleives in the right and might of the israeli government; otherwoise he would say that he hopes god would make this headache go away. Nu, so what does it say about him?

The rabbi’s words were taken out of context. He was simply saying that on Rosh Hashana when we make the berachot against our enemies, such as “yistalku oyvecha”, to have in mind the Palestinians- people who are violent and irrational in their quest to simply murder us and anyone who disagrees with their dysfunctional and barbaric belief system. If anyone is an “oyev” is it not them? No one asked “vos iz neias” and ywn to post this on their website for all to see. There are people who attend the rabbi’s shiurim weekly and these words were intended for those who were privy to their context and the entirety of the rabbi’s speech.

With judgement day about a week away, I really truly feel for all you posters who were medaber lashon hara on a gadol hador. It doesn’t hurt me nor does it hurt the rabbi, but it most certainly will hurt you. In your wildest dreams you’d never imagine his vasy knowledge and brilliance. I seriously pity you all. Hashem yerachem.
