Brooklyn, NY - Hikind To Kelly: Increase NYPD Presence In Borough Park, Not Traffic Agents |
|
Brooklyn, NY - In the wake of the second incident involving gunfire in Boro Park this week, Assemblyman Dov Hikind (D-Brooklyn) is calling upon NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly to increase the overall number of police officers assigned to the 66th precinct and to add NYPD foot patrols.
“Boro Park has been the site of two shootings this week alone,” said Hikind. “Our beloved Shomrim and the 66th precinct were integral in the arrest of the suspects in both cases. But clearly, we also need an increased police presence.”
Hikind noted that there is no shortage of traffic enforcement agents in his district, but he is hard-pressed to find a police officer patrolling the streets on foot. “I want to see at least as many police officers on the streets as there are traffic agents,” Hikind remarked. “Our community has always been a safe one, and I want to keep it that way,” he added.

Dov is only partially right...we need more police to patrol the heimeshe neigborhods but definitely need more parking agents to deal with all the double parking and traffic congestion. Its especially bad around shabbos and yom tovim where selfish yiddin simply park wherever they can find an empty space by the curb (even if means blocking a driveway or a hydrant). Its gotten so bad that rather than driving around when it very close to zman for licht benchen, some will actually double park their car on a side street for shabbos blocking in other cars (many of whose owners may not be stricly shomer shabbos). Since the regular police no longer want to waste their time on parking enforcement matters, we really do need more parking agents from the mayor. So please Dov, don't give Bloomberg an excuse to take away our parking enforcement capability.

Bloomberg has destroyed the NYPD with his requirement of all new officers at a "cheaper salary." It's a sad day when the police commissioner has to thank a public group for their service as they are taking guns off the street and dealing with violent offenders let out by liberal judges. The NYPD is dead.

Boro-Park streets are crawling with NYPD agents, the wrong kind--parking ticket dispensers. They infest our neighborhood like cockroaches, ripping us off, day and night. It's not about law enforcement; it's about Gelt.
You're right Dov. Let's trade them in for REAL police.

Dov Hikind we do NOT need more police officers..We need more Shomrim members. If they bring in more officers u will see an increase in moving violations writing tickets to make up their salaries...When you see a break in or a robbery and call 911 no officer will leave his lunch behing and run to a crime screen and shomrim will be the first ones to drop every thing and run...What you need is more detectives in the preceint to investigate those crimes being caught by shomrim and the police.
We need a better prosecuting system not to let those convicts back on the street to commit those crimes over and over again..

When is the last time you went to 13th Ave. and tried to find a parking space ? All those store keepers and employees park there all day feeding the meteres (or breaking them) and u cant find a spot...Those agents do a great job (yes its revenue for NYC) keeping traffic flowing and we can use some more agents going after cars that pass school buses while red lights is flashing....bring more highway cops for the morning hours..

Dov!!!!
You recently conducted a survey regarding financial difficulties in the local community. I suggest you should conduct a survey for 1 week have 3-4 people go around BP and mark the names and badges of traffic officers in the neighborhood and will see the outrages amount of officers going around for the only purpose of ticketing hard working people! Basically draining them from half of their wages!!!
It must stop! I’m not sure which branch of government has the authority of changing this behavior

eitheir way u look at it there will be tickets given out and money 4 the city,if there r more traffic cops then more tickets will be given 4 parked at illegal spots, double parking or expired meters,if there r more regular cops then it means more tickets being given out 4 red lights, blowing stop signs or speeding, apprantly most of u dont realize that, traffic cops cant give 4 moving violations, even though it means safer streets it means more tickets as well, everything comes with a price!!

90% of driveways in boro park are illegal. So if you want we should stop blocking them put a sign with proof that its legal and not just a sign NO PARKING!

Although I am always sickened by the knee-jerk anti frum people on this site (and do not like traffic agents any more then the next guy), you are 100% right about this. Boro Park is a horrible place to drive, full of the most selfish group of drivers you could ever have imagined stuffed into just a relatively few small blocks. Everyone is always in a big hurry, making it quite obvious that whatever they are doing is far more important then whatever it is you are, and if you ever have the audacity to not already be moving at thirty miles an hour by the time the light is green - you will be sure to suffer the wrath of the horns from the cars behind you.

Dov is the best. We need foot patrol to protect our community. We also need foot patrol to direct traffic on all major roods. Look at 13 av. all double parked cars. Traffic is at a stand still. If you deserve a ticket, except it. If you cant take it, leave your car home. We became lazy. To go for two blocks we take the car. Some cops are no good, but most do their job. Most of us want it our way, but most except it for the good and the bad.
