New York – An unarmed Orthodox Jewish community watch group will receive five bulletproof vests from a New York senator so that it can safely patrol neighborhood streets.

Sen. Eric Adams says he’ll buy the vests using his own funds and donate them to the Shomrim safety patrol. Each costs $400.
The vests are expected to provide an addition layer of protection for the group’s members as they try to keep the community safe.
The area has seen two separate shooting incidents recently – the most recent resulting in gunshot injuries to four members last week after the group went after a man they suspected was exposing himself to young children. Two of the injured remain hospitalized in stable condition.
The nearly 100-member volunteer Shomrim group is licensed and works alongside police to patrol two Brooklyn neighborhoods.
Adams said Sunday he hoped to encourage other elected officials to support the group.
He says five vests will be sufficient for patrols at any given time. But he says it would be best if all members of the patrol had their own vests.
Whats with wmsbg??! when will we got vasts?? in wmsbg there is also shoting’s.
nice going senator. i take my hat off to you!
I hope the Shomrim guy’s won’t be wearing them outside of their shirts its like inviting a bad guy to shot you in the head when they get the vest they should where them but with a shirt or jacket on top of it

You are either uninformed or deliberately misleading others. There is no record of any Shomrim being shot with a firearm in willy so please don’t exploit the heroes of BP for your own publicity .
I think Crown Heights Shmira should get it
Anyone wants to be Menadev Military Tanks, Bazookas, Sniper rifles Etc for Shomrim ???
To No. 8…..who shot any shomrim or any other citizen volunteer group in WB? Bulletproof vests are NOT some kind of fashion statment or like a pair of tzitzis that you want all yidden to be walking around to protect themselves against a non-existant attacker.
$400 vests? what will that stop? a bb?
Great Job by Hatzolah transpoting all 5 pt. to a trauma Center so fast. Thank you Senetor Adams for supporting and protecting our community. I hope all elected officials will follow. Thank you Shomrim for all the work you do. I wish a Refuah Sheleima to the Shomrim members still in hospital. Wishing all Vin readers a Kesiva Vachasima Toiva.
I have not always agreed with Senator Eric Adams but this time I must congratulate his actions in helping the Jewish( actually the entire) community of BP. With G-D’s help may the vests never be needed again.
Why do we have to wait for politicians to donate bullet proof vests for OUR members who protect US…….We should make appeals in every shul to pay for those who protect us 24-7…The same way Hatzoloh pays for oxygen, equipment, ambulances, insurance and other expenses a VEST is an expense that must be paid by the community who is being protected by our members …Lets not wait till we have chas veshulem another shooting…
As a holder of an NYS and an NYC concealed carry permit, as well as carry permits in other states, I would strenuously object to arming Shomrim members or any other neighborhood watch group. Their job is to observe and report. They are not cops. They are not Rambo. From my brief association with such groups it is my opinion that they have neither the training nor the temperament to be trusted with lethal weapons If they would actually have to shoot someone, even in self defense, they would almost certainly be charged with felony assault and, if C’V they kill someone, they would be charged with murder.
Citizens arrests are tricky things. As in all acts of Kanois, they are subject to arrest themselves and to reprisal as well. In the recent case in BP, it frankly seems that the miscreant can make a valid case of self defense in shooting the Shomrim members (although he would be subject to a charge of illegal possession). You can’t legally resist a Cop who is arresting you but you can legally defend yourself against a citizen trying the same thing and if a group of citizens attempts to arrest a single individual, that individual would be legally justified in using deadly force to protect himself.
So all of you ersatz super heroes out there, stick to observing and reporting and leave the rest to the adults.
not enough kavod and credit was given publicly to the senator
Excellent vest
