Buffalo, NY – Paladino Mailer Sent Stinky Message To 200,000 New Yorker’s

    7

Buffalo, NY – Carl Paladino sent an offensive direct mail piece to 200,000 New Yorkers and it doesn’t just read ‘Something Stinks in Albany,’ it actually smells–like a landfill. Paladino has once again proven he is not afraid to do outlandish things to grab some attention. The mailers that contained a horrible odor.

The mailer from the Paladino campaign landed in mailboxes late last week and this weekend that had a specific odor evident the moment you pick it up; which conveys the message about something that “Stinks in Albany.”

Although it may have grabbed the attention of the recipient, many are questioning the thought process behind such a move. The USPS has strict rules regarding mailable matter and the Paladino campaign would have needed to receive an expection from the USPS in order to mail such offensive material.

According to the DMM (Domestic Mail Manual) section 12.9 under “Other Restricted and Nonmailable Matter”:

    Matter Emitting Obnoxious Odor

Any matter that is a source of an obnoxious odor is nonmailable.

The Republican candidate seems to be embracing his reputation as someone who says what he thinks, no matter how shocking. “I’ll serve for four years, I’ll go and I’ll do the dirty work,” Paladino told the media and a small group of supporters at Monday’s rally.  “I’ll take out the trash.” And it’s trash that Paladino’s campaign mailer smells like.  The mailer pictures various Democratic lawmakers, past and present, and rails against the “Stink of corruption in Albany.”

While Paladino is trying to be the antithesis politician, Andrew Cuomo’s television ad that hit the air Wednesday, is the antithesis of that.

Nothing, absolutely nothing, sticks out in the AG’s spot and analysts call it purposefully bland.  Albany has had too many incendiaries as of late so Cuomo is selling himself as someone who can get the job done which will appeal to both Democrats and Republicans.

Paladino is no stranger to scandal. He sent some explicit emails, some with dubious jokes about President Obama and others with pornography to  a large group of people. He has also stated that he would enact legislation housing welfare recipients in prison dorms, and suggested they could take lessons in “personal hygiene.”

But ultimately, Paladino, who is courting angry Tea Party voters, might be too controversial to win a general election in New York.
