“I don’t want [children] brainwashed into thinking homosexuality is an equal valid and successful option,” Paladino said during a visit with Orthodox Jewish leaders in Brooklyn Williamsburg at K’hal Adas Kasho.

Paladino, who is running for governor, told the conservative Jewish leaders he would veto a gay marriage bill if it’s passed by the Legislature.

Paladino drew a distinction between himself and Democratic rival Andrew Cuomo, saying he boycotted the gay pride parade while Cuomo marched.

“I didn’t march in the Gay Pride parade this year. My opponent did. There is nothing to be proud of in being a dysfunctional homosexual. That’s not how God created us, and that’s not the example that we should be showing our children – and certainly not in our schools,” Paladino said.

He went on to zing Cuomo for allowing his daughters to also march in the gay parade.

“My opponent took his daughters to march in a homosexual parade,” Paladino scoffed.

Asked whether such comments are appropriate given Saturday’s stunning charge that nine members of a sadistic Bronx gang tortured a gay man and two gay teens, Paladino said he does not support gay bashing.

“Don’t misquote me as wanting to hurt homosexual people in any way. That would be a dastardly lie. My approach is live and let live,” Paladino said.

Cuomo spokesman Josh Vlasto ripped Paladino as a homophobe “unfit to represent New York.”

“Mr. Paladino’s statement displays a stunning homophobia and a glaring disregard for basic equality,” Vlasto said.

He said the comments “along with other views he has espoused make it clear that he is way out of the mainstream and is unfit to represent New York.”

I wonder if such a performance by a non-Jew is good for the Jews. Do we want to be closely associated to the general public via him and by giving a platform to him in a Shul or Jewish setting? I agree with #3, and add it is not kavod to us, our community or our Shul.

What an incredibly stupid political move.

Bravo Mr Paladino. We agree with your moral compass and hope cuomo follows suit in this regard.

While this is probably a terrible political move, and insensitive by today’s politically correct standards, it is an opinion and sentiment shared by many rational people.

Mr. Paladino says what he thinks, and on this matter his perspective is the same as those of us that are Orthodox Jews. So, why bash him? We’ve had enough of the homosexual community shoving their abnormal, aberrant behavior and agenda down our throats. Maybe some of you are more comfortable with the Orthodox Shelly Silver, who promotes the homosexual agenda. Bravo, Mr. Paladino, you speak for the silent masses of people who lead normal lives. We were once called the “Silent Majority”, which hopefully we will silent no longer.

Not everything we think and opine needs to be aired to the public via a non Jewish, non- orthodox person. His opinion may be similar to ours on this matter but he does not represent our lifestyle and Mesorah. I say this is not healthy for us long term. Maybe I am a chicken – ghetto Jew?

Coming one day after the tragic and brutal assault on two teenagers and a young man whose only crime was being gay, I cannot believe he would show such hate by calling gays dysfucntional etc. I only hope his daughters and those of anyone who applauded his hateful remarks don’t have to deal with the same tragedy but unfortunately that may be the only way they will learn tolerance.

Scary stuff. It seems all the posters above me forgot Germany 1939. Moral values? Yeah, let’s kill all gay folks…you’re all kinda evil, and if this is what Yiddishkeit is, you can keep it.

If the silent majority come out to vote he might win. Take an example greenfeld, he won strong even in boro park because of a silent majority or thompson he could of won he was close to bloomberg. I am voting for paladino, even though he is a mshugener, because a mechugener is better then a big shot. Let albany rumble for 4 years and then things will get alittle bit more centered. If we ny handeled patterson ny will handle palidino coumo will just forget of everone after his election.

Who are these Orthodox Jewish leaders referred to in the article? I don’t think any candidate of any office belongs in a shule unless he’s there to daven. Shules should not be campaign stops of photo ops. The topic he chose to discuss in the shule doesn’t seem appropriate. Of course we all know if the issurim having just heard the leining on Yom Kippur, we don’t nead to hear it from a non Jew who has his own issues with morality.

who is the guy standing behind on left with the down hat? He is a interesting fellow who is always around when gays are discussed, he was heavily involved in Lakewood when corzine was up for election…

This so-called moralist (Paladino) is already on record as saying hat he would support gay marriage if there was a referendum by the people of NYS voting for it. For those of you men who applaud politicians who are against gay marriage, be consoled that if you should choose to marry a woman instead of a man, no law of NYS could ever prevent you from doing so. You should confer with your rabbis regarding what is halachically allowable, and you should not dovetail your moral compass with that of politicians.

Paladino is, allegedly a Catholic, and the Catholic churches* forbid political speeches in their churches (even if it’s anti-abortion). Why didn’t the Brooklyn Shul take a hint from Paladino’s own faith? There was nothing to stop them from going to a nearby park or restaurant to hear him speak.

    To Open-Minded

I look forward to the day your little Moishele comes home and says he has found his beshchert and you should start planning a chassanah…in fact he has invited Avrumele over next weekend for shabbos so he can meet the mishpoiche. This happens every week in many heimeshe families who deal with it with screaming gevalt and threats, throwing their own children out of the ehouse and sitting shivah. Some yinglach have even comitted suicide but your hero Paladino calls them “dysfunctional” and says “live and let live” after hateful rhetoric from other “open-minded” yidden and goyim resulted in the near-death of three young men over the weekend.

We all have lives and priorities, such as our health, safety and financial well-being. How do we manage to make our political agenda one thing and one thing only? The truth is that the gay agenda has not been shoved down our throats. None of us have beeen forced to experiment and we can stay married to our wives.
No. 22 It is happening every week in heimishe homes. Boys are coming home and telling their parents that they want to marry another boy. Who is the shadchan in these cases? If they came home and said they met a girl would their parents accep it? Unless heimish means something else (remember this speech was in Williamsburg) You are off your rocker.
Now, politicians know that they do not have to provide us with anything that we need, just empty rhetoric about gays. Nice job leaders.

mr. paladino does not say he negates hate laws and has the perfect right to his moral opinion.why on earth would any thinking person be happy to accept a groupes moral opinion and be happy to be silent on his own?vis a vis the gay community.

    #15 ,

AG candidate Schneiderman showed up in an Orthodox synagogue in my neighborhood one Friday night. The rabbi insisted in recognizing him, and he spoke for about two minutes, simply introducing himself, thanking the rabbi and the congregation, and asking everyone to vote. He didn’t talk about any political issues, and certainly did NOT bash any Orthodox rabbi the way Paladino did in BP.

Paladino, we’ve got your back! If you want to vote a promoter of G-D’s morality code vote Paladino. If you want to vote for a promoter of what caused the great flood (maase znus caused the mabul), vote Cuomo. If you want Cuomo to win, stay home and it may as well be a vote for him. Please come out en masse to vote Paladino!!!

Leven is worse than Paladino…he runs around lending a “black hat” and veneeer of respectability to th biggest haters and anti-semitim…its rare that we should daven that bad things should happen to a rav but in this case, the tefilot would come easy to someone who seeks to create such tragic outcomes for the kehillah…he is playing with fire and hopefully will be consumed by his own flames of hatred.

    #5 ,

    Our moral values?!

Whether or not the government recognizes homosexual marriages is not an indication of our moral values at all.
Our government has no place in recognizing any marriages, it’s not the job of a government, but once a government has decided to take upon itself to give recognition to marriages, they should recognize all marriages.

As for those who claim that it is our job to bring the world toward outlawing homosexuality, they need to realize that the word “To’eiva” is also used regarding adultery, which is a significantly bigger problem in America, and which takes priority over the issue of homosexuality.

We live in a time where there are advertisements that say “life is short, have an affair”, and are aimed specifically for married women! Anyone who is speaking about the societal ills of homosexuality and only about homosexuality is probably a closet homosexual.
The case in point is a certain unnamed rabbi of the Levite tribe who has such flagrant homosexual tendencies in his speech and in his loud, obnoxious antics, that he has become the laughing stock of everyone who has ever seen him speak!
