Some taxi drivers are turning away Brooklyn-bound passengers to avoid construction-related traffic tie-ups on the Brooklyn Bridge, a Post survey found.

Almost half the hacks hailed in lower Manhattan during weekday work hours refused to take a passenger over the span, which is under extensive renovation.

The Taxi and Limousine Commission said there’s no excuse to refuse a fare.

“At this point, drivers know quite well that that we do not tolerate service refusal anywhere, for any reason, and that the penalties for service refusal are appropriately stringent and could include the loss of their TLC license,” said TLC Commissioner David Yassky.

The TLC said rebuffed riders should report incidents by calling 311.

The agency received 611 ride-refusal complaints between Aug. 15 and Sept. 30, when major bridge work began.

While it’s unclear how many of those complaints directly involve Brooklyn snubs, riders only griped 421 times during the same period last year.

This is an ongoing problem for the last 10 years for sure.

Brooklyn gets the shaft all around with transportation. We also took the biggest hit with the elimination of the X-29 Express Bus, countless local buses, and the discontinuance of the M train to Bay Parkway.

I’ve travelled to Brooklyn a few times by cab over the past several years but it took forever. The taxi drivers get lost since most rarely leave Manhattan except to go to the airports. Most frum yidden who live in Brooklyn rarely travel anywhere anyway and when they do, they take the bus or subway rather than taxis or limos.

Years ago, the majority of taxi drivers in NYC were Jewish, Italian, and Irish. Today, the majority of NYC cabbies are Pakistanis, Hindus, Arabs and immigrants from the Carribean. Many of them don’t know the local streets. In London, UK, one has to pass an extensive test, which demonstrates knowledge of every street in London! Here, they grant taxi licenses to ignoramuses who don’t know where they are going. If at all possible, avoid NYC cabbies. Also, at one time, the NYCPD handled all licensing and complaints regarding cabbies. The Taxi and Limousine Commission is worthless in this regard!

You people are morons to simply complain about this, especially those of you who claim to have had this problem for years.

The taxis are required by law to take you anywhere you ask them to go. Write down the medallion number from the top of the cab, and simply tell them you file a complaint with the TLC if they don’t take you.

Regardless of how much traffic there is to Brooklyn, is will take them less time than being called up for a hearing at the TLC for this violation, even if they win the hearing, which they won’t. The TLC is very touchy about this.

    #2 ,

The Bronx does much worse than Brooklyn. Mayor Bloomberg withdrew support for the desperately needed freight rail tunnel under the Hudson that would take the polluting trucks off the Cross Bronx Expressway. Every subway line from the Bronx to Manhattan except the Grand Concourse line is over capacity, with no plans on the drawing board to do anything about it, ever. We also lost a bunch of bus lines. When we want to drive to Westchester in the rain, we have to avoid the parkways because they are constantly being flooded! And the Riverdale section where most of the frum people in the Bronx live today is quite poorly served by public transit, with no subway and inefficient buses.

Try hailing a cab when you are noticeably pregnant. I would have to wait for a long time until anyone would stop for me!
