Upper Nyack, NY – Angry Neighbors Sue Rabbi Over Access To River

    33

Upper Nyack, NY – A $2.25 million Hudson River property bought for the New Square grand rabbi’s solitude has become the subject of legal action contesting the use of a 155-foot swath of land providing neighbors access to the river.

The response to the lawsuit by the rabbi’s followers goes into their failed illegal transfer of the property to a New Square-based congregation to avoid paying $198,000 in property taxes on the rabbi’s retreat house.

The legal action also includes claims from one neighbor that his property value is being diminished by buses and cars loaded with the rabbi’s followers who come to the house during the day and night, blocking a private road and access to the river.

The legal action by Menucha of Nyack LLC centers on blocking two neighbors from paving over a 10-foot-wide swath of lawn on Menucha’s property and giving them access to the river.

    $2.25 MILLION?

I am about to have my electricity and water cut off b/c i can’t pay the bill; and yes i work full time.

How many yidden in eretz yisroel can be fed with $2.25 million?

How many cheder Rebbes can be paid (when they haven’t been paid for months) with $2.25 million?

How many mothers can be given help to buy food for their babies with $2.25 million?

    Are my priorities wrong?

The property was “bought for the New Square grand rabbi’s solitude” but, according to the complaint, there are “buses and cars loaded with the rabbi’s followers who come to the house during the day and night.”

What kind of “solitude” is that?

If the Rebbe needs solitude, why doesn’t he just check into a hotel under an assumed name?

What a shanda…we have one rav in Brooklyn screaming at the yeshivot for not spending more on chinuch for marginal bochurim who may not be talmedei chachamim, other rabbonim crying out for more tzedakah for starving yidden who have lost their jobs and have no unemployment insurance and this scoundrel in New Square is wasting $2.5 million on a “vacation home/retreat”. what a shanda.

#2 you are deffinitly wrong.its there money and you have no right moraly or legaly to be bitter to what another does or does not with his or her money.perhaps because of your eyen horah you’ve come to the dire situation where you can’t pay your bills.with that being said i hope hashem sends you a decent parnassah and sends me sechel.

as much as i like and respect the rebba this is a real problem firstly if the neighbors have an easement you can not close them out legally but this is foolish build a fence giving them access to the river as they always had and end this issue seems every other day we are in the news with one yeshiva or another trying to subvert the law to their advantage

stop blaming the world for our problems lets look closer to home 2.5 million pays a lot of rebbe’s salaries

Let him sell this palace and use the proceeds to feed the hungry Yidden.

This is happening all over Rockland County and the rest of us residents are totally fed up. We need tax money desperately, and if it’s JUST a Rabbi’s house, then taxes should be paid on the property like all of us pay. Please read the comments posted and understand how the people feel about all Jews due to the actions of a few. Why can’t New Square follow laws so as not to bring shame or put ALL Jews in the limelight? The block where this mansion is formerly was very quiet and peaceful without trash being left out to rot or rats coming to eat the garbage. Daily busloads of people and busses parked on the property do not belong here.

Why does the Rabbi need such a big, fancy place for a retreat? How about a one bedroom condo close by? Does he really need to look at the Tappen Zee Bridge when he wakes up? Will that make him a better person? Rosie O’Donnell lives close by. I’m surprised he would want to live near her!

If the Rebbe doesn’t spend the night at his retreat, why does he need a Mikve?
$1Million in renovations? Next time the Yeshiva Avir Yaakov come knocking on my door, I’ll think twice about my donation

#6 , I’m curious, what makes him so holy? as someone who went to him for a bracha twice, I learned one very important lesson. If you don’t have money and REALLY need a bracha, he gives you a minute or two. The more money you give him, the more time you get. Sorry, I wont be going to see him again (B’N). I will daven and ask for brochos from the Ribbono Shel Olam. I don’t need an agent. Let the Skverer Rebbe concentrate on getting his crooks out of jail.

All of you out there who know everything about everything: before you start judging where the money should go and how exactly it should be spent, you have to know a thing or 2. First of all (I don’t know much about the rebbe but I know that) he’s a big person and besides for going to get a bracha from him many people go for advice (and he does treat everyone very very nice (and if it was only for 2 min just say thanks for your time and leave him alone he is a little busy). So before you start talking you should be very careful! 2nd thing you should know is: you don’t know where the money came from it could be (probably) some rich dude decided he is getting the resort for his rebbe and the money is only for that! (maybe? No?) and if not that something else maybe. But don’t forget to be mlamed zchus (even on a very well respected rebbe). Thank you and have a great day!

    to all you who left personal notes to the rebbe on this forem;
the chances of the rebbe reading them are non existent so please dont waste your time!
but agree to all of you.

Why does everyone keep quoting the $2.25 million amount? That’s just the initial investment. The TOTAL investment is $3.25 million, according to the article.

Perhaps, though, it pays for itself as it enables him to meet with “secular” patrons, according to the article. (I suppose it’s high prestige to get invited, like being invited to the White House.)

in bavly the gemora says: An example of Chilul hashem depends on the level of the person.
If a rabbi or highly respected person is just not paying his grocery or butcher bill the time of purchase. its concedered a chilul hashem. So if a Grand rabbi is involved in a luxery house on the river in such difficult economy. it may be a chilul hashem. I never heard that the holy Chenobler magid z”l or the Ba’al Shem Tov z”l had a resort house on the river.

This house was a personal gift from R’ Bentzy Dunner for the Skverer Rebbe. Bentzy was one of the greatest baalei tzedakah and gave millions of dollars for mosdos and poor people. He also gave 2.25 million house for the Skverer Rebbe whom he admired. What’s the big fuss?

Poster # 4 (Monsey yid); You are right. We have to recognize at all times that we are in Galus. Also, Teshuva helps. But because we are in galus, we should try to lower our profile and making an attempt at cooperating with our neighbors and local authorities instead of having this attitude of “In Your Face” and seeming to outsmart the local authorities who are trying to enforce building and other codes for everyone’s safety.

Relax, it is not his money, It was bought for him by those who want to show grattitude.
If you want to kvetch about wasted money, go scream about YOUR tax dollars which the Kenyan illegal alien who occupies the White House throws down the sewers for his and his wife’s vacations. He reserved 520 rooms in the Taj Mahal for a vacation? Go scream about that
The Skverer Rebbe Shlit”a does more for the good of the world in a second that all the hacks in Washington have ever done in their whole lives. Go shrei about the Senators and Congressmens junkets, go Shrei about Pelosi’s jet.
