Ehud Netzer was directing an excavation at the King Herod-era site near Bethlehem Monday when he fell 10 feet after a railing collapsed.

He died of his injuries Thursday in a Jerusalem hospital.

Netzer, 76, was known for pinpointing an ancient synagogue and palace in Jericho. He was an expert on Herodian, a man-made hill where King Herod built a palace and refuge in the southern desert of the West Bank in the first century B.C.

Netzer discovered Herod’s tomb there in 2007.

In a statement, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Netzer’s “tragic death is a loss for his family, for research into the heritage of Israel and for archaeology.

And you should stop desecrating the name of one of the greatest arecheologists in the world today and an ehrleche yid who NEVER “desecrated” any gravesite. I fear for the future of anyone such as yourself who would make such a disgusting comment about the niftar.

If you knew anything about archeology you wouldn’t have made the comment.
Archeologist don’t come with a bulldozer and dig up graves.

(Proffesor — you profess to be one, but your spelling of that title suggest otherwise.)
It would be nice if comments were researched before blabbing. Who said this dude never desecrated a grave? well here is the National Geographic talking about this dead guy digging up bones: “As if things weren’t complicated enough, the site was soon visited by an ultraorthodox group called Atra Kadisha, which defends Jewish graves against archaeologists and roadbuilders alike. They insisted that Netzer’s team rebury the bones they had found and seal them in place in concrete. ” So yes, this archeologist dug up bones.

Ehud Netzer was one of Israel’s leading archaeologists, and – above all – ‘adam yirei shamayim’. His ethical approach to uncovering the history of Israel was above all reproach. He was also a talented teacher, and I and several of my IDF buddies were privileged to learn from him.

The entire world – including the olam hachareidi – is the poorer for his passing. My condolences and respects are extended to his entire family.

Fact is, although I don’t know this person, the overwhelming majority of archeologists are very anti-religion. Its what they stand for.
As far as desecrating graves- the whole land of Israel is one big grave site and that’s a fact, it never stopped anybody from not constructing their huge shuls and yeshivas (much bigger and nocer than the ones in the USA)
The desecration is what happened to “mihu yehudi” especially as it relates to the Russian non-jewish immigrants. Where were these fanatics then??

To #10 - From the angle of the photo, it was impossible to tell if the late Professor Netzer was wearing a kippah or not; assuming that he wasn’t, what business is it of yours? Are you implying that because he wasn’t religious enough, that he deserved what happened? Please!

Fact stays fact. Like it or not. He did order the excavations of graves. I understand that to most vin commentators, they couldn’t care less if graves were dug up unless it’s their immediate family. These yiddin however are not sooo selfish, (at least in this case) and are really bothered by graves being dug up. This bum and I repeat, BUM. netzer was a big supporter and director for many graves dug up under his command. Soooo everybody looking for any reason to attack #2 for his comments are just a bunch of bigo1s disgusting people who can’t accept a comment that obviously comes from a orthodox man. Too bad for all you, frum people are the ones that survived for generations as yiddin, however your modern, twisted b1gotry will not survive too long. there might be new ones to fill in your foot steps, However they will not be your sons (painfully for me too!)
