A new survey rates it as the worst airport in the country — again.

And to think, once upon a time — 1960 to be exact — LaGuardia was voted the greatest airport in the world by the worldwide aviation community.

Oh, how the mighty have fallen.

Zagat’s annual air travel survey of 8,000 travelers gives it a rating of 6.18 out of 30, which means LaGuardia is, for the fourth time in a row, the lowest rated airport in the U.S.

Having traveled through LaGuardia several times in the past several months, I must concur with the survey. There is little there that is not confusing. I found the staff there, including many at the ticket counters, the TSA staff to be mediocre at best (a huge compliment). The layout is punishing. If it would not become a tax burden for all, I would vote for a total renovation of the facility.

It’s disgusting, it looks like a bus terminal and the runways are dangerously short.

My daughter found the TSA staff at LaGuardia to be remarkable. She once accidentally left her laptop by the security area. She didn’t realize it was missing until a TSA employee ran onto the plane looking for her, 2 minutes before the doors closed. The TSA employee got her name from the laptop, looked up the flight she was on, and delivered the laptop to her, all within 30 minutes.

So let’s not knock TSA at LaGuardia; they are amazing.

I agree however I understand the shortcomings of the airport. There really isnt much room for them to expand the place. Even renovations need room. If they found a way to pave Flushing Bay that would be nice too!
