Photographers took pictures of a Secret Service agent sprinting toward the scene and pointing a gun at a vehicle.

The driver wasn’t trying to get near the president or his family and the incident had nothing to do with his Hawaii visit, Secret Service spokesman Ed Donovan said.

“Honolulu police were going to arrest someone they had traffic warrants for. He was able to get away from them, and led them in a high-speed chase which ultimately led to one of our checkpoints,” Donovan said.

The 39-year-old driver, who wasn’t immediately identified, was eventually arrested and didn’t go near a security barricade closer to the Obama vacation home.

The president was playing golf at a nearby Marine base at the time.

Honolulu police said the chase began after officers went to a Kailua home to arrest the man on five warrants for alleged driving violations and he fled.

“He drove past a residential checkpoint that was set up near the president’s vacation home, turned around then drove back out,” the police statement said.

The chase continued on area roads until he was cornered. Police said officers used a stun gun to subdue him when he refused to get out of his vehicle.

I’ve had my job for 10 years and don’t have time for golf, but i guess everyone’s gonna say that being a president is much more stressful.

Every president goes in looking fresh, and energetic. They leave office looking old and haggard like they aged 25 years.

There is no place in Hawai’i called Kailue.

You probably mean Kailua, which is on the northeast coast of the Hawai’ian island of Oahu (same island that Honolulu is on).

MCBH (Marine Corps Base Hawai’i) is northwest of Kailua.

Obama works longer hours than any president in modern history….how quickly some of you forget that Reagan would fall asleep during cabinet meetings and Bush II would take several multi week vacations each year at his ranch in redneck Texas

If the choice were getting arrested by the local po-po or running a Secret Service barrier give me the Boys in Blue every time. The Secret Service place the safety of the President above EVERYTHINGL. They have no hesitation about using lethal force. And agents’ sense of humor are surgically removed when they leave FLETC.

The guy was lucky not to get shot.

It is funny how short people’s memories are. Bush 41 & 43 both took FAR more time off during their first 2 years than Obama has.

In 1976, during the Presidential campaign, President Gerald Ford was leaving a city in Connecticut (in his bulletproof Presidential limousine). The Secret Service and the local police forgot to close off a specific street, near the route of the President. A driver coming down a street which was not closed to traffic, crashed into Ford’s limousine, at a right angle. I’m not sure how fast both cars were going, but it was probably in the area of 25-30 mph. After the collision, the Secret Service jumped out of their cars with guns drawn, on the poor motorist, who happend to be in the wrong place, at the wrong time. Ford was shook up from the collision, but otherwise uninjured. It was quickly determined that the motorist was not at fault, and he was released. The latter incident was the only one in history, where another vehicle accidentally crashed into the President’s limousine.
