Conshohocken, PA – Home decor and furniture company IKEA is no longer stocking or selling incandescent light bulbs in its U.S. stores, instead offering longer-lasting and energy-efficient bulbs.

The retailer began phasing out the sale of the light bulbs in August. IKEA’s action comes ahead of federal legislation that would mandate more efficient light bulbs starting in 2012.

The pullout also applies to IKEA stores in Canada. Stores in France and Australia started phasing out the incandescent bulbs last year.

“Eliminating incandescents is just one simple way for IKEA customers to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gases,” Mike Ward, U.S. IKEA president, said in a statement Tuesday.

IKEA’s available lighting options include the compact fluorescent bulb, LED, halogen and solar-powered lamps.

Compact fluorescent, or CFL, bulbs use up to 80 percent less energy and last up to 10 times longer than incandescent bulbs.

IKEA, based in Sweden, currently has more than 300 stores in 37 countries.

and they do not last 10 tens as long as they say they do. I change some as fast as i change incandescent; they are dangerous if broken beside broken glass and they cost more. Another political correct idea that is stupid. Halogen lights throw a lot of heat also. I can see in another 2 years it will be a crime to have incandescent light bulbs. They will legalize marijuana and send you to jail for using incandescent since they will be illegal to import than from the far east

recent studies have shown that energy-efficient bulbs release more mercuty than regular bulbs. but since Ikea is a liberal european company they don’t give a damn about our safety and are only concerned about the hoax known as global warming

I’ve been stocking up on incandescent bulbs for a couple of years already, ever since that stupid law passed. Every time I go to Wal-Mart or Target for other reasons, I would also buy couple of packages of 60W and 100W each and a package of three-ways. I have enough to last a life time and then some. I advise everybody does the same before 2012. The when the time comes we will be feeling sorry for the ones who didn’t.
