Germany Chancellor Merkel will meet with the premiers of the provinces, in which nuclear power plants are later in the day. The German government announced 14 March that the country would delay plans to extend the life-spans of nuclear generators by three months, in order to run safety tests first. In consequence of the nuclear accident in Japan a commission of inquiry will be re-checking the safety situation of German nuclear plants. EPA/SOEREN STACHEBerlin – Chancellor Angela Merkel says Germany will take seven of its 17 reactors offline for three months while the country reconsiders plans to extend the life of its nuclear power plants.

Merkel said Tuesday that Germany will temporarily shut down reactors that went into operation before the end of 1980, affecting seven reactors. The decision comes amid fears sparked by the crisis under way at Japan’s tsunami-stricken nuclear power plant.

Merkel spoke after meeting with the governors of states that have nuclear power plants.

A previous government decided a decade ago to shut all 17 German nuclear plants by 2021, but Merkel’s administration last year moved to extend their lives by an average 12 years. That decision was suspended for three months on Monday.

Its about time that the roof of every single house should have solar panels to create clean electricity so we don’t need to rely on nuclear or arab-oil.

Nuclear energy is clean. It does not emit any pollution. True though that the depleted uranium must be disposed of properly, but there hasn’t been a catastrophe as a result of depleted uranium. It takes just 2 pounds of uranium to generate the same electricity that 3,300 tons of coal can. Those are significant numbers. It is the most fuel efficient way to produce electricity.

The trajic events in japan are a mess – age .There is no such thing as a safe nuclear reactor.Acts of nature can destroy anything in its’ path.If one has to choose between
radiation exposure and its’ consequences and oil-spills i would rather deal with the latter.
All the more reason to wipe out Irans’ facililties before they go live.
    How about this Purim ??
