New York’s lottery says the four men and three women are information technology workers at the state Division of Housing and Community Renewal who bought their ticket at a newsstand in downtown Albany. They range in age from 29 to 63 and are discussing the win at the department’s Schenectady (skeh-NEHK’-ta-dee) headquarters.
One winner says she was dumbfounded when she saw the numbers come up.
Word spread quickly among the group. One member figured his phone ringing after hours meant an equipment malfunction at work.
They’re each collecting checks for $19.1 million after taxes.
The jackpot was the fifth-largest in the multistate game’s history.
7 employees less on the new budget
How does it go from $319,000,000 divided by 7, to $19.1 million per person? Here in Canada, they don’t deduct ANY taxes on lottery wins. (Then again, we have more terrorist arrests at airports, so I guess it all evens out).
See, it pays to go to work and have a job.
With all of the venom foisted on Civil Servants recently, I am very happy for them.
