Jules Schelvis was addressing the Munich court where Demjanjuk, who is also 90, is charged with being an accessory to the murder of 27,900 Jews in a Nazi death camp.

‘Out of respect for my humanist parents, I ask the court to enter a finding of guilt against this aged man, who has already spent nine years in jail, but not to punish him,’ said Schelvis, who is a Dutch Jew.

Schelvis’ wife, Rachel, was killed in 1943 in Sobibor death camp while Demjanjuk allegedly worked there.

Prosecutors have recommended he be given a six-year jail term.

What is a “humanist?” Is this a new religion? Maybe we should give them a state!

Why just because he is old and evaded punishment

that sends a very bad message do any crime just make sure you do not get caught until you are old and then you are scott free

It is because of suicidal Jews like this that we have all the problems in EY. We are our own worst enemies. We have to stop acting like yoshke wants people to act and start standing up for ourselves and dealing with those who want us off the face of this earth.

First off I must respect the man for what he and his family went thru, but I don’t have to agree with him or the humanistic ideas. I am not qualified to pass professional judgement on his views but do believe strongly that if Demjanjuk is proven guilty that his need to be punished regardless of his age is still extremely important and he should not be set free.
The following is from a Google check of the subject of “humanistic”…….
“The focus of the humanistic perspective is on the self, which translates into “YOU”, and “your” perception of “your” experiences. This veiw argues that you are free to choose your own behavior, rather than reacting to environmental stimuli and reinforcers. Issues dealing with self-esteem, self-fulfillment, and needs are paramount. The major focus is to facilitate personal development. Two major theorists associated with this view are Carl Rogers and Abraham Maslow.”

Think how glad the Universe will be upon the demise of This horrible man of no time to come in the world ahead. This fellow will die and so many thousands of voices in the World to Come will breath a sigh of releif. You wait and see. I bet that the entire Universe feels differently when his death comes, may be be swift and in haste.

What purpose does it serve to imprison a 90 year old man? He’s been found guilty and already served 9 years in prison, and there’s question marks as to the credibility of the evidence

Take it easy on the man and try to understand. He survived churban, lost his wife in it, and he is 90. He is obviously not in his right mind. I’ve known many others who survived, believe me, being “humanist” was (in few cases is) the least of their problems.

Seems to me the first rule of humanism ought to be that there be a system of justice to protect the public from sadistic criminals. But what do I know?

prison may not be such a terrible place for this murderer….his meals are prepared, free medical care, rent is free, im sure he sees some sunlight, has an occasional game of chess, watches cable…and laughs.
