Albany, NY – Senator Betty Little (R,C,I-Queensbury), Assemblywoman Teresa
Sayward(R,C,I-Willsboro) and Assemblywoman Janet Duprey (R,C,I-Peru) said the 2007-08 state budget includes $1 million in new funding that would be available to remediate lack of cell phone coverage on the Adirondack Northway (I-87) should the financial need arise.

“My hope is that we will not need to use this money,” said Little.”The goal is to provide service that is fully funded by a cell phone carrier, not requiring support from the state. But given the existing state policy that restricts the height of cell phone towers in the Adirondacks, a state subsidy may be appropriate for an interim or long-termsolution.”
“I am pleased there is a recognition that state funding for cell phone service may be needed to ensure the safety of the traveling public on the Northway,” said Sayward. “While work continues on a cell phone plan, it is reassuring to know that there is a financial commitment on the Legislature’s part in support of cell phone coverage on the Northway,” said Duprey.[VIN]
