Brooklyn, NY - STATEMENT BY ASSEMBLYMAN DOV HIKIND ON PRESIDENT OBAMA’S MIDEAST SPEECH
“Once again, President Obama has proven that he is not a friend of Israel. His outrageous remarks today calling for a two-state solution and the establishment of a Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders indicate a blatant disregard of Israeli history and of the constant threat of terror and violence Israel faces from all sides. In fact, President Obama is of the same mindset as Hamas who have also called for a return to the 1967 borders.
Mr. Obama does not live in a world of reality as is evidenced by his attempts to befriend Iran, Syria and other nations who seek to destroy both the United States and Israel. In trying to force Israel to return to the 1967 borders, Mr. Obama has effectively condemned the State of Israel to a slow and painful death. We cannot and will not allow that to happen. President Obama’s comments have only reaffirmed that he still does not get it and never will.”

I would like to see Netanyahu cancel his Obama meeting.
Much cheaper if he just croses the border & talks to Abbas, same results.

How do all you fellow Yidden feel now that the messiah has officially thrown Israel under the bus? You all had better run and donate to his next campaign fund for reelection.
The only purpose you all have is a liberal agenda, which is good for all the self hating Jews!

It is high time for Jewish voters to realize that most democrat politicians are not sincere about their commitment to the State of Israel and the survival of the Jewish people. On the other hand, most politicians on the republican or conservative side get it ,and are concerned about our future. It is shame that 78% of the Jewish voters voted for Obama.

True but the presumption that we must agree with everything Obama says is also not valid. There is the presumption that our President will act in accordance with the law and have the best interests of the USA in mind. Empowering terrorists does not fit in there.
This Country has never had a Jewish President and should never have elected a Moslem President.

Hamas does not "call for return to 1967 borders" as the final settlement. They call for it as "okay for now" and are very clear that they will never recognize Israel's right to exist in any form, thank you. The president was talking about that as the final settlement. There is a difference. Also, I don't see this as so revolutionary. He is not the first president to talk along these lines. Is this that different from President Bush's "Road Map" ? Do you expect a US president to be a Likudnik?

I fully support President Obama’s speech, Dov is his usual self, the president never said that the pre 67 borders are static; he used a caveat that land should be negotiated. Which was always the understanding from every Israeli government, Dov is from the mindset that not an inch. Well that is not in the interest of Israel nr the US; only the rightwing loonies champion that idiotic view.

In 1967 the UN adopted a resolution saying Israel must withdraw from territories captured in the Six Day War. There was a whole tumult as to the language. Should it say "all the territories", "some of the territories", or the vague language "territories".
The US opposed the language "all the territories", which was good for Israel. However, the language "territories" has now come to mean all the territories. Had the US only insisted back then that the language read "some of the territories" (which were to be decided during negotiations), we would be in better shape now. How anybody could have allowed the meaningless language "territories', is beyond me.
As far as the plans of Bush go, supposedly he gave a letter to Sharon saying that Israel has a right to hold on to some of the 1967 land.
At any rate, even now, the thing to do is to make land swaps, and give over all the Arab towns, in return for Jerusalem and the settlements. The Arabs will never agree, since they do not want to lose their citizenship and all the things like health care and education that go along with it. They also know that a PA state will be backward like all Arab countries. The plan will anyway fail.

Remember the OpEd here that came out a couple of days ago?? This President has continued (and expanded!) what recent presidents have done in supporting Jewish culture and Israel.
The idea that this president is anti-jeiwsh is nothing short of political rhetoric and I'm sorry you fall for it so easily.

SarahJ:
This position is a victory for terror. That is not even good for the US. If you look at the Middle East with an open mind, you'll see that this is true. Hikind is exactly right. In 1967, the Arab countries were not addicted to terror. They based their activity on war, and they repeated that as often as they could manage to get other countries to restock their arsenals. The persistent victories by Israel (with the help of Hashem) finally brought that to a halt. The terror began after 67, and it never stopped. No one can allow it to continue, and any politician that increases Israel's vulnerability to terror should be recognized as a supporter of terror (not Palestinian people). And that is not good for US either.

In 2005, Bush called for negotiation based in the 1949 armistice lines. He said that a state on the west bank and in gaza would also need to be connected by territory through Israel! Check the worldnetdaily archive. You'll see it there. That's FAR from liberal news.

Your way of thinking "let's not make waves" because if we do they will hate us. Anti-Semites don't need any reason to hate us just as they will not start loving us if we turn over backwards for them. Israel threw out 8,500 Jews from their homes in Gush Katif, did the world love us for that? We need to speak out...Thank You Assemblyman i just wish there were more like you. Let's not let them walk all over us while we lie down and stay quiet..

You are ill informed, democrats are for none of the above. They are for themselves. The fact is most super rich supported Obama and is was the average american who voted republican albeit for a poor candidate because they were afraid to lose the basic stability in their life. The Wall execs did not have this fear and they supported Obama in droves and he has rewarded them with all types of financial shenanigans. He does this on the backs of average and low middle class citizens who are the backbone of this country. Furthermore, its these same people who support Israel as a Jewish because of their religious and moral convictions. It is a clear fact that republican politicians as well as the parties platform stands up for the values that is dear and holy to Torah observant Jews including the financial and medical issues that you claim democrats are so concerned about. The opposite is true! It is the republicans that give the little man hope that yes he can and yes he will succeed in his endeavors to better his life as well as his family and community.
