The Frenchman confessed to guards that he took the wire as a souvenir. The investigation will now be taken over by the police in Oswiecim – says Marek Korzonek from the police headquarters in Krakow. The piece of wire was found during the luggage screening.
A French interpreter arrived to Balice to assist the Frenchman during the questioning.
investigation?? he admitted what he did immediately.
It is common practice to take such “souvenirs”. I was there about 20 years ago, and I also have a piece of barbed wire from the fence as a “souvenir”.
Kudos to the Polish security and screeners for making this find. Most airports would have probably missed it.Once, when leaving Krakow airport with candlesticks in my luggage,I was stopped and the candlesticks were thoroughly examined and only then was i allowed to board. It seems they take their responsibilities in a serious manner !
Unlike the sign, there’s nothing all that historically significant about some rusted barbed wire, but they need to let people know you can’t just damage property “as a souvenir” or they’d walk away with chips from the kotel or what have you.
#2 ,perhaps it’s called stealing ?”
