New York – Last night in Albany as the Assembly voted on gay marriage, one of the notable moments was when Assemblyman Dov Hikind, a Democrat from Brooklyn, spoke out against same-sex marriage.

Hikind, waved a copy of the Hebrew Bible and invoked religious principle in arguing against the measure.
“You want to tell God he doesn’t know what he’s talking about?”
Mr Hikind said, he would “like” to be with advocates on this issue, but, unfortunately, the Torah, teaches otherwise.
Watch below as Hikind passionately speaks out on the Assembly floor.
Well said Dov. We’re lucky to have you in the Assembly. You should continue
your good work for many years to come.
Attention New Yorkers:
You vote for left wing loonies so this is what you get! Some of you are Demorat first and Jewish second. Disgusting!
Always know who you are voting for and what their policies are. Don’t just vote for someone because you ‘heard’ that he/she is ‘good for the Jews’. Do your own research or don’t bother at all.
Super !! Dov, you are our HERO !!!! If only Shelly would follow your brave representation.
That’s just embarrassing. A fellow Jew using Auschwitz to defend his opposition to equality. Stop overusing the Holocaust, fellow Jews. It’s stupid and offensive.
Dov, time to quit the Democratic party.
The Torah also takes a very critical view of witchcraft and sorcery. “A sorcerer shall not be allowed to live.” (Exodus 22:17) “There shall not be found amongst you … a sorcerer, soothsayer or engager of witchcraft … For it is an abomination before God, and it is on account of these abominations that God is giving you their land.” (Deut. 18:9-12). Is Hikind doing anything to outlaw witches? Is he cracking down on tarot card readers who operate openly in his district?
The Torah is absolutely clear in prohibitting tattoos. “Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you:” (Leviticus 19:28). Is Hikind introducing legislation to shut down tattoo parlors in NY?
I’m not in any way suggesting the Torah’s views should not be followed by Torah-observant individuals. But it is disingenuous for a politician to selectively use the Torah as the support for his view on one issue, even while he obviously recognizes that the laws of the US and the State of NY are not directly in sync with the Torah’s statements on every issue.
When Christians use their Bible to deny us equal rights and Muslims use the Quran for the same thing I hope every one of you cheers just as loudly.
OK Dov…you’ve tried your best and lost….Time to refocus your energy and political clout to really important issues. Lets start with job creation in your district and efforts to involve the yeshivish tzibur into “self-help” programs to redirect young men and women to educational programs that stress job-skills and secular knowledge necessary to function in society. Lets move on from daily news conferences to demand restoration of subsidies and handouts and more focus on incentives to get jobs and support your own families. In other words, lets get “back on the political derech” where yidden take care of themselves and government provides whatever is necessary to allow for such self-reliance.
