Jerusalem – Thousands attended the levaya today in Israel for Rav Chaim Stein zt’l, the Rosh Yeshiva of Telz who passed away in Cleveland, Ohio, last Wednesday night. Rav Stein was 99 years old at the time of his petira.

Numerous rabbonim and roshei yeshiva attended the levaya, which was held in the Mirrer Yeshiva in Yerushalayim, with hespedim by R’ Nosson Tzvi Finkel and R’ Shmuel Yaakov Bornenstein, followed by kevura on Har Hamenuchos. Hespeidim were also given by two Close talmidim, Reb Chaim Valkin, and Reb Yitzchak Zilberberg who spoke about his Mesiras nefesh for Torah.

It was nice to see a few frum women in several photos standing in the back and on the side but nonetheless still there to show their respect for this gadol hador. It was sad that in the photos of the levayahs in Cleveland and again in Lakewood, there were no girls or women who attended the levayah.
I’m sure there were women in attendance at the levayah in Cleveland were Rav Chaim lived since the 40’s. Perhaps none were in the photographs posted. Lakewood is another story, as Lakewood is… well, Lakewood.
If you look at the photos of the lake wood levaya there are women in three of them on the sidewalks and to the sides of the the larger group of men. Just because women are Tzenuot doesn’t mean they aren’t there!!!
