The convenience-store franchise will be giving away its signature Slurpee drinks to customers in honor of its special day. Each free drink will come in a 7.11-oz. cup

“The main thing is to commemorate 7-Eleven’s birthday and give back to thank the consumers and fans with free Slurpees,” said Julia McConnell, a spokeswoman for 7-Eleven.

Slurpee giveaways have occurred annually since 2002, but this year’s event is anticipated to be larger than ever.

Before you head over to your local 7/11 store, look here for Kosher Slurpee flavors and see if your favorites make the list!

It may be Kosher, but it is still not suitable for human consumption. Healthier to ingest the cup itself rather than the contents…

It is up to each individual store (which are privately owned by franchisees) whether to participate in this promotion. Most stores in Jewish area don’t participate. I know in Lakewood, Baltimore etc they don’t. Even the ones that do, run out pretty quick.

If not, why are are you publicizing it?

You’re not doing your kids a favor by treating them to a Slurpee. On the other hand it is no worse than a soda.

I just checked the list. I cannot believe that there are so many flavors of Slurpees. I read an article last year that said, IIRC, that these kinds of drinks are over 50% sugar. Better to have a tall glass of ice water.

Slurpees are great treats for kids. In fact, when I went to Miami Beach I davened in a shul where they give out Slurpees on Shabbos for prizes for the kids that daven the best or something like that (they buy them before and freeze them). It seemed that the kids really loved it and it worked quite well for motivation. Definitely worked better than candy or a Coke.
