Describing himself as a strong ally to the Jewish community, Weprin said that if elected he would be “Israel’s strongest ally in the house” and cited his public criticism of President Obama for calling on Israel to return to pre-1967 borders. Weprin also touted his strong record for providing funding for education within the Jewish community.
Defending his support for the gay marriage bill, Weprin explained that while clearly many were not in favor of the bill, it contained provisions affording the religious community protection from being sued for refusing to perform same sex marriages or allowing adoptions by gay couples.
Meanwhile, NY 1 is reporting that Senator Joe Lieberman will officially throw his support behind Weprin on Thursday in Washington, D.C.
The assemblyman is battling Republican candidate Bob Turner in a special election scheduled for September 13.
Turner has been publicly backed by former Mayor Ed Koch for differing from President Barack Obama’s stance on Israel.
VIN News, will run an interview with Turner within the next few weeks.

he didnt answer the question of how as a frum jew he voted for it!!!!!
Thanks VIN. He seems like an intelligent candidate. I think he will make a great replacement for Anthony! Not as liberal and yet solid for Israel and Yeshivos.
Mr Weprin vote for the gay bill ! there is no excuss . Visited israel 6 time and in nystate he forgot about G-D. vote agaist the jewish people. cant be trusted he let us down. lets vote for TURNER is a vote for jewish issues. lets take Mr Koch and Mr Dov Hikind advise . thank you
He seems like a nice guy. Does anyone know anything about Turner?
sorry i meant to say how he voted for the marriage bill as a frum jew!! please have him respond to that!!!!!!
Anyone notice how these politicians avoid the points affecting us most and only bring up “talking points”
Let’s be honest with ourselves. Being “Israel strongest ally in the house” means nothing. Yes we need Israel supporters in the house, but how much does it really effect us? The house is generally friendly to Israel because it makes sense to them, Israel is our only ally in the middle east. Yes there are those who are more pro than others, but the truth is it is better for America to be pro israel than not. Yes Israel needs our support. But the bottom line is politicians say they are pro israel because its an easy claim to make and they don’t need to put anything on the line to prove it. When trying to win the Jewish vote all politicians run around saying pro israel. Why don’t they talk about american issues that directly effect us? Did you ever hear any politician talk to us about their policy on school choice? Health care? Tax cuts? Abortion? Same-sex marriage? National defense? No! Why? Because there stand on these issues are not in line with ours. So they rant pro Israel. Enough is enough with these liers. Vote them out.
This werpin guy is the same as all of them. He screams pro Israel to us, but doesn’t tell us what he holds on the important issues. Let him tell us all his positions not the fake ones.
Mr. Weprin,
You SPONSORED and voted for sodomist “marriage” – which our holy Torah refers to as an abomination that led to the Flood. WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?
We don’t live in Israel. We live here in NY. And NY is becoming the land of Sodom and Gomorah. You don’t think sodomy has consequences? You don’t think that children will be subjected to tolerance brainwashing classes?
Bob Turner is a good man. Right now, I am more afraid of the leftist Jews than of the goyim.
Was it a request to wear a kipa and to sit behind the sefurim
I didn’t like his vote on the marriage thing, but im going to vote for him. Hes good for us and for new york.
Look – the gay marriage thing would have passed without him too. We need a guy like that in congress for us. it is stupid not to vote for him.
Toevah supporter! I dont need your $ its filthy and treif!
What kind of chutzpah some of you have!
without weprin, most of our yeshivas and nonprofits would have gone unfunded!! he has bent his back for our community, and now some of you choose to attack him for ONE VOTE that will never directly even affect us?? for shame!
what do you even know about bob turner? NOTHING. has he ever even been to Israel? he says a couple of words and some of you just fall for it.
Perhaps we should vote out all politicians cause they permit a McDonalds restaurant that sells Treif.. we need to stop this NON sense.. would any of you guys give up your gov. subsidized housing, or welfare assistance because a politician voted for Gay Marriage.???
Its non of our business issues that relates to the secular world.
Weprin, is a good guy and we should vote for him..
Come on everybody. I have bitochon in Hashem to resolve this toeva business as there is no man-made solution to this problem. We might as well have as many frum yidden in the US government to help us in these dangerous times.
Now he looooose my vote, we don’t need a supporter for isreal & gay marriages in the house, its against the holy Torah
I just want the oilam to understand that the same liberal thinking that embraces the gays also defend chasidim when we have issues such as Shabbos, right to have a beard in the military etc.
As much as you won’t admit it, its the Republicans who are against beards in the military and the last time I checked Pollard was not pardoned by Bush and the liberal democrats in Congress defended Rubashkin more then anyone else.
Plus Turner will vote with the Tea Party and eliminate Medicare and Weprin would not.
Someone tell me WHO is bob turner? what has he EVER done for us? Are some of you willing to vote for someone you know nothing about because he gets on a podium says israel yes obama no??
Weprin is at least one of us, we’re not always going to agree 100% on everything, but where it matters he’s our haymish. and at the end of the day, he’s going to win — because the people that really care about our community know better than to vote for a wolf in sheep’s clothing! Fershtay?
Turner has no record on Israel. He will say anything to please anyone as opposed to Weprin who does have a record, perhaps not a perfect one but a real record.
I personally know that he has strong personal ties to Israel and he has helped Jewish organizations with funding.
If Turner gets ellected he will have to losten to Republican leadership that is totally against any types of funding.
These are the facts. You decide.
The only support Israel needs is that Jews follow HaShem’s Holy Torah. A vote for Torah prohibitions is a vote against Israel!!!
I would like to investigate all those individuals who are upset on Weprin for voting on the Gay issue, if they have any school vouchers.
If you do, I like for you to give it up.. We Jews like to scream, but remember it’s Politicians such as Weprin who provide the beef to keep our Mosods going.. if you don’t like it, please remove yourself from all Gov assistance, until than you have zero credibility to raise your voice against Weprin.
By the way you should also know that ED KOCH is responsible for gay marriage because when he was Mayor he started gay rights when he ordered executive order 50 which was the first step towards gay marriage so a vote for Turner is a vote for thanking ED KOCH
I think he will feel the pain we have for having to pay for tuition, and his support of israel is genuine, so i think we should support him
The problem we have with Weiner is not that he voted for Gay Marriage, but why he said publicly on the Assembly floor, that he can do so, as an Orthodox Jew.. that is a NO NO
Is that the level that we have sunk too? Pay us and we’ll vote for you! no no no we must be self sufficient, if I wouldn’t have to pay 56% taxes I could support more kollelim. But it is guys like this that tax us till we can’t pay schar limud for our children.
Gonna vote for the real, genuine candidate. thanks, but no thanks bob….
I’m amazed how many yidden have started acting like there is only ONE issue relevant as to which candidate to support…their position on gay marriage. What about the economy, jobs, eretz yisroel, social security, tax reform, global warming etc. On ALL of these issues, Weprin has a demonstrated record of voting his district’s postions. Stop obcessing about one issue and focus on the broader range of issues, most of which are more important than what others do in their bedrooms.
Sorry but he did not sway me nor will his disingeneous posing in front of a seform shrank and wearing a nice black Yarmulka fool most intalectually honest people. Like most politicians, he has a spine of jelly and did not have the courage of his convictions when it came time to vote on a piece of legislation that will socially impact our city, and by extention the country. Notice how he obfuscated and avoided answering why he voted for it. Those of you that argue that the legislation would have passed without his participation simply add urgency to my argument that there was there was no need for him to support it.Doing so in such an overt way is nothing short of shameless. As for his alleged support for Israel, Prime minister Netanyahu’s and unprecidented welcome(over 30 standing ovations) illustrates that the lions share of elected officials in both houses, have resisted the Obama adminstrations repeated attempts to redefine our relationship with Israel. Finally as for our mosdos, my taxes are high enough!Perhaps the time has come for us to take a closer look at them and re-evaluate how we view what some have come to regard as thinly veiled self perpetuating employment agencys
We have all lost sensitivities to one of the worst sins the Hashem mentions in Torah which was PROUDLY supported! Are you supported financially by the govt or Gd. If u don’t know, than start with learning vasic emunah
He is going after a dead end job. Redistricting will eliminate this district shortly anyway. Weprin will remain as unknown as he is today.
