Gaza City - The Islamist Hamas movement welcomed Thursday’s series of attacks on Israeli vehicles in southern Israel, near the border with Egypt, but refused to take responsibility for them.

‘I don’t think Hamas is behind these attacks, but we praise them since they were against soldiers,’ senior Hamas official Ahmed Yousef told the German Press Agency dpa. No Palestinian group has taken responsibility for the attacks.

Assailants armed with heavy weapons, guns and explosives launched three attacks in quick succession in southern Israel near the border with Egypt's Sinai Peninsula on Thursday, killing at least six people and wounding about a dozen more, officials said. The rare violence in that part of the country targeted a passenger bus, a military patrol and a private car, the officials said. The classification, as you called it, is not necessarily done by VIN personnel.

The vast majority of stories published on VIN, and other so-called "news aggregation websites" are cut and pasted from other sources. In the case of this story, its origins lie with DPA, the Deutsche Presse Agentur.

You can easily see the originator of almost any story published on VIN by looking at the top right-hand corner of any story, above the picture.

And no: I am not associated in any whatsoever with VIN other than to contribute a comment here and there.
