The mayor said late Saturday night that the weather was getting treacherous and anyone in the evacuation area should stay put. The city ordered about 370,000 residents of low-lying areas to leave. It was the first evacuation order for the city.

Irene made landfall in North Carolina earlier in the day and is barreling its way up the coast.

We are so inundated with the Nanny State. Are they also going to instruct us when to flush the toilet? Or to hold our hands and console us!

Re#1. There are always those people that will always be cynical about nyc and the people governing it. Im not saying im the one that sticks up for bloomberg all the time. But this time don’t be smarter than anyone else.

I’m usually a hard critic of Mayor Bloomberg, but when he is right he is right. It’s absolutely horrible outside here in NYC. Unless there is something urgent and important to do why tempt fate by going outside.

There was this guy who said he will stay where he is “Hashem will protect me!” When the storm started, some neighbors offered him a ride in their SUV. “Hashem will protect me!” The flood waters got higher and the streets were full of water. A man came by in a rowboat and offered to take him to higher ground. “Hashem will protect me!” The waters got higher and a motorboat came by. “Hashem will protect me!” Finally the waters got so high he was perched on the roof of his house. A helicopter flew over. “Hashem will protect me!”

Finally the waters did overwhelm him and he drowned and faced the Beit Sin Shel Maaloh. “Why did you throw away your life?” they asked him. “I thought Hashem would protect me!” “Hasid shoiteh! Hashem sent you an SUV, two boats and a helicopter!”
