    **UPDATE**
VIN News has confirmed that one victim has been pronounced dead, and the 5-year-old child is in critical condition.

Officials say the good Samaritan was electrocuted trying to help a child who had gone into a flooded street that had live wires embedded in it.

A spokesman for the Rockland County Emergency Operations Center says the child is in very serious condition at Westchester Medical Center’s burn unit.

Spokesman Ron Levine says the child’s father was treated for burns at another hospital and released.

Levine says the youngster got caught in wires obscured in a flooded Spring Valley street Sunday afternoon. The village is about 30 miles northwest of Manhattan.

He says the child had to be taken by land with a police escort to the hospital because helicopters were grounded. It took 20 minutes to get the child there.

If any Cheder is open today they are being totally irresponsible. There was still a danger of trees falling in the wet soil. They should have waited another day.

Let’s not have any further tragedies today. Standing water and power lines are a current danger to all right now. Keep your children indoors today.

    BDE. Terrible.

I live right near there–about one minute. It has been raining non stop all morning and the police have told everyone to stay inside. Why they were outside is beyond my wildest comprehensions.

do not know what happened but this is why one must report a downed power-line to 911 even on shabbos as opposed to Augudath Israel’s instructions, which is irresponsible and dangerous

while this did not happen on shabbos it shows the danger of downed power line.

Their logic makes no sense, since they do not care about others who might be walking in the street or rescue workers or con Edison workers who might be in the area

    5. If someone sees a power line fall and it poses a danger can one contact the authorities?
A person should never venture out during or right after a hurricane. Coming in contact with downed power lines could be fatal. Unless the power line could cause a serious danger to the people in the home, one should wait until after Shabbos to report it.

Guys…we just had a tragedy. Someone died while trying to save someone’s life. WE should come together and mourn, not argue /condemn/judge others.
These things keep happening in our community..why don’t we learn anything from it???
Why dont we all realize that all this bickering might actually be causing these things to happen…G-d is big enough to keep ppl safe no matter the conditions. If they should’ve been more careful is their issue. As a community we should just be supportive and loving , only like that may we be able to alleviate some of the sorrow and prevent some of the future calamities .

My kids did daven and learn at home and did stay indoors. Their cheder offered a prize to everyone who learns and I admire them for that. They are a chasidish cheder and were looking out for the safety of the kids adults and staff.

I have just read this article in conjuction with the comments and cannot stop crying. We compound the horrific tragedy at hand by being so quick to judge what we do not and cannot understand. A yiddishe man died trying to save a life of one of our own children. There is nothing else to be taken out of this article. He died Al Kiddish Hashem and may he be a meilitz yosher for Klal Yisroel. We are at the start of the yamim noraim, let us not judge others harshly lest we be judged in the same manner. May all Yidden have a K’siva v’chesima tova.

Everybody stop judging! Bottom line is, 2 people were hurt and one died trying to save them. End of story. Stop speculating why it happened and just daven that they have a refuah shelaimah and that the family of the niftar has a nechama.

Moshe Yosef was a wonderful person-I remember the day he walked into Ohr Someyach- so easy to get along with, never spoke poorly about anyone-at an Ohr Someyach dinner he told a story about how, after Meir Schuster gave him tefillin with the promise of putting it on every day, as he travelled around the world, he said “and I put it on every day-Shabbos, Yom Kippur”-it cracked the whole room up—no matter what troubles life handed him, he always seemed to handle them with an attitude that he understood that they were from Shemayim, and that somehow they were going to make him a better Jew-I am sorry that I hadn’t kept up with him over the years-He was a diamond of a person, and I am sure that he never thought of the danger to himself for a second when he was going in the water to try to save these children. I am deeply distressed that people would let their children go out and play outside after a hurricane with downed trees and wires everywhere-but-what can I say?–Moshe Yosef-You were a great friend in the years that we spent together in Ohe Someyach, and may your death somehow be a kaparra for the Jewish people to save us from more tragedy

For those of you judging, here’s the story. There was a fire outside the night before with the wires. There was a police officer overnight securing the area. In the morning he left and they were told everything is fine. There was no rain outside, and the father and child went out in front of the house for a minute. The boy climbed the ‘metal fence’! Since it was metal, it took less than a second and he was unconscious. The father ran to the childs rescue and got burnt just by touching his hand. The neighbor saw something is going on and ran to help. He was electrocuted at once and was DOA. The hatzolah members couldn’t even get close to touch him…The boy is now in critical condition and this innocent neshamah unfortunately needs to have his arm amputated…Please…it’s rosh chodesh Elul! Instead of judging, take out a tehillim and say some for this innocent soul! Besuros Tovos
