Mrs. Leah Stern, who was reported to be in her seventies, was unable to escape the motel when it was evacuated at approximately 8 AM this morning, as raging waters from a nearby lake flooded Main Street and uprooted the motel.
Mrs. Stern had been heard yelling for help for some time after the motel was uprooted but those in the area reported that by approximately 3:30 this afternoon, her voice could no longer be heard.
Mrs. Stern’s husband managed to evacuate safely from the motel.

What took them so long? Why couldn’t they reach her till 8 1/2 hours after the place was swept away? That’s crazy!
Why couldn’t she escape together with the rest of the people? What went wrong? Anybody have more details? Its really tragic!!

Tragic, was wondering why these two tragedies are not reported as deaths from this hurricane in N.Y.?

Anybody know more details? Yes, we know its not easy to rescue someone from a floating building (reply to #20 ) but come on, so long?? and why was she the only one left? How was she, an elderly woman, left alone in a motel during a hurricain??
