New York, NY – ‘Jewish’ Bachmann is Costing Mitt Romney

FILE - In this Aug. 16, 2011, file photo Republican presidential candidate, Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., speaks to supporters in Spartanburg, S.C. APNew York, NY – Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney is facing a new challenge: He’s having trouble raising money from some Jewish donors who mistakenly believe one of his opponents, Michele Bachmann, is Jewish.

Some Jewish donors are telling fund-raisers for Romney, a Mormon, that while they like him, they’d rather open their wallets for the “Jewish candidate,” who they don’t realize is actually a Lutheran, The Post has learned.

“It’s a real problem,” one Romney fund-raiser said. “We’re working very hard in the Jewish community because of Obama’s Israel problem. This was surprising.”

Romney moved to quickly position himself as an alternative to Obama among well-heeled Jewish contributors in places like New York, New Jersey, Florida and California — a group Obama locked down in 2008.

Some in Romney’s camp have been wondering whether Bachmann and her allies are pushing the “Jewish” rumor to help their own fund-raising, sources said.

She has enjoyed strong popularity among Jewish voters and often talks about her stay on a kibbutz during the summer of 1974, when she was a teenager.

In a speech to the American Israel Political Action Committee last year, Bachmann recalled being guarded by soldiers while working on the kibbutz.

“While we were working, the soldiers were walking around looking for land mines,” she said. “I really learned a lot in Israel.”

She went on to say, “I am a Christian, but I consider my heritage Jewish, because it is the foundation, the roots of my faith as a Christian.”

Bachmann also told an AIPAC gathering earlier this year that she and her family make sure each year to attend at least one Jewish-theme play or movie.

What morons! These “well heeled” jews would rather support a candidate because she’s jewish. They are acting like a different community that votes based on skin color no matter what.
I’m not saying Romney is better then Bachman or visa versa, what I am saying is that people should be supporting candidates based on the candidates positions on important issues.

If only these Jews would know how anti-Torah she is. She belongs to an evangelical movement which supports the conversion of Jews. These evangelicals go out to college campuses and to small rural towns and convince them that they can become “perfected” Jews by accepting their phony messiah. This woman and her ilk are dangerous to us and are NOT our friends. They say all the right, supportive words for Israel, but they would wipe yiddishkeit from the face of the earth if they could. It is their “mission”.

#1 is right, in this regard Romney is not MUCH better. However, the Mormons have shied away from such action here in the US, although I don’t believe there has ever been a directive to NOT target Jews as there was with the Catholic church.

The reality of all of this is that there are a lot of dumb, ignorant and stupid people within every group around this world. Our communities are no exception.

the more she talks the more she shows that she is no presidential material how people could vote for her or support her is amazing

I think it’s sad that people would support a candidate just because they THINK that candidate is a certain religion. You have to look at their principles and where they stand on major issues.

As a side note, I’ve known many mormons in my life, and I’ve found them to be the most respectful of and interested in learning about Judaism. It’s true that they send their missionaries out to try to convert others, but I’ve NEVER heard about them baptizing dead people!

What a choice! Mormons, or morons! Anybody with a lick of sense will vote for Ron Paul in the primary.

This is a truly idiotic article, and quite anti semitic if you think about. Saying that Jews are so ethnocentric that they wil only vote for other Jews, and so blindly devoted to “race” that they can’t even look up whether she is Jewish? Idiocy. What the reality more likely is that many conservative Jewish voters, like myself, see Bachmann as an excellent alternative to the namby pamby wishy washy Romney, regardless of either’s religion. BTW, to the person that parrots the classic liberal position that the reason Evengelicals support Israel is to convert us, that is baloney. They may have an eschatological “end of days” scenario involving the Jews, but is does not include actively working for the Jews’ destruction nor the demonization of Israel. That is saved solely for the left (see Tony Blairs idiot sister in law). So, PMOFL, stop listening to NPR for a moment, and see who your real friends are. When Moshiach arrives, you don’t think it will be clear whose “side” he is on?

can’t understand why anyone would support Bachmann just because she’s “jewish”.
this is besides the fact that she’s virtually unelectable, meaning she has no chance of winning, in my opinion.

I believe Mitt Romney’s platform is isolationism. And foremost among the details is the cutoff of aid to Israel. Not that the qualification or lack of it for anyone candidate turns on one issue. But the political candidates are so good in giving speeches that are tailor-made to their audience. Oh. And Michelle Bachmann wants to demonstrate her closeness to the Jewish people by telling her audience that she watches at least one Jewish-themed movie each year.

Michele Bachman is about as essential to the Mission of the Jewish Nation as a margarita is for starting your automobile.

The comparison to Carter is based on (lack of) competence and the shape of the country when he was in charge. The US was demoralized already because of the Nixon mess and Carter made things worse. Same here. There were already problems in 2008; Iraq was probably a mistake and the economy was bad. Obama made it worse.

Comparing him to Ted Kennedy ideologically is fine with me too and makes sense. If Kennedy were President today, the US would be in the same shape or worse than it is now.

The nation was demoralized after the Nixon debacle. It ended up even more demoralized after Carter delivered the same kind of “change” that Obama is delivering.

Trickle down does work. That was Reagan’s ideology and under Reagan, America worked. Now, you have an entire culture that worships those on the bottom – and I think it is just a sign of the inexorable decline of the US and rise of Asia. (I don’t live in the US myself although this election I may exercise my right to vote from abroad).

Both Carter and Obama are incompetents and their foreign policy is very similar (except that Obama hasn’t gotten much done abroad besides his stroke of luck with Bin Laden because he’s tied up in the US.)

FDR yemach shmo was complicit in killing 6 million Jews and he set up the whole entitlement economy. The war got the US out of the depression. Just as he hid his medical condition from the public, FDR YMS pulled the wool over the public’s eyes in many other ways.

Now go take a book and learn instead of making up all kinds of pseudo-facts. Comparing anyone to Hitler YMS is absurd. Obama is Carter redux but in a different style and presentation. Get it? Got it? Good?

Whoa, PMOin FL, chill out. You got some aggression issues my friend. Sinas Chinam anyone? BTW, as you can see from my name, I am born and raised in Wisconsin, hardly Brooklyn, and in fact WI is filled with more people of German heritage than any other state, so I know from Xtian evangelicals, my friend. Secondly, I hate to tell you Mr. Kiruv, that most Jewish kids that stray so far as to go to church and fall in with Evangelicals (or cults) you had NO to very little chance to mekarev as they were too far gone in the first place. Chances are most of them are zera goy or not even Jewish al pi halacha. That makes a huge difference. I know that is sad, but I think it may be true. With that said, I must digress and say that perhaps your aggression, lack of tolerance, anger and personal demeanor shown on this site may have something to do with the kids not flocking to your kiruv efforts. You may want to think about another field, just FYI.

PmoFL, really, you have got to lighten up, man. You are going to bust a blood vessel or something. First of all, what Yid is going to want to go to the Holyland experience? You made me laugh out loud. Do you think there is anyone out there that does not know it is sponsored by Evangelicals? That is ludicrous. Most Jews on campus are highly liberal and shy away from ANYTHING to do with religion, let alone fundamentalist right wing Evangelical religion. Many of them that do get involved , (and this is not true overall) have some deep emotional problems/issues and repsond very favorably to the faux friendship offered by the Evangelicals. Admittedly, evengelicals and other groups do make headway into Jews of the former communist countries, but blame that on Communism. I am strong advocate of spending limited Jewish funds on people who WANT to be Jewish. I propose to you that even with the conversion efforts of certain segments of Evangelicals, overall they show tremendous respect to religious Jews and are perhaps the main source of the US’s tremendous support of Israel amongst the citizenry, present adminstration and most intellectauls and liberals notwithstanding. I am going to milk my cows now here in WI, and get me ready to make some deeeeelicious Cholov Ysrael cheddar! Let me guess, you are based on a college campus somewhere in Florida. You have been exposed to the liberal “elite” for too long, my friend…I am calling you home to be perfected as a true Jewish conservative. I invite you to the next event of Jews for Cheeses here in WI.
