The New York Times reports (http://nyti.ms/p13GrW ) that Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s town houses in New York and London are filled with original works of art and exquisite furniture like a $1 million Chippendale couch.

An antiques dealer tells the Times one painting appears to be by Joshua Reynolds or Thomas Gainsborough and might be worth $450,000.

The Times says the properties were on the website of Bloomberg’s longtime decorator Jamie Drake until Monday. The palatial homes were not identified on the site as belonging to Bloomberg.

    Bloomberg’s spokesman did not comment.

Bloomberg, founder of the financial news and information company, is worth an estimated $18.1 billion.

As much as I can’t stand his attitude as mayor, he still earned his fortune and may spend it the way he desires.
    Good for him.

Odd how his empire grew almost tenfold since his first soft landing in public office, until his hard landing the last time and from last election till now! he (if my memory still works was worth something like 2 to 4 billion! Hey mayor! did you forget were in a recession! without any backstage deals or using govt to further your financial “success” (or rather mafia tactics) you shouldn’t be hiking up that fast! something doesn’t smell right! is this only my opinion?

do you think his homes would be filled with the specials that we regular folks are thrilled to be able to buy?
if yuor checkbook loooked like his does you would also have the ability to furnish the way he does. doesnt mean you would, but you could.

The stupid article missed mentioning that Mr Bloomberg has made charitable donations averaging more than half a Billion, yes with a B, over each of the last 5 years. Which is a heck of a lot more than he has spent on decorating his houses. You may not appreciate where he sends his charity, however it is very hypocritical to begrudge him spending on luxuries when he spends many multiples on charity.
