Boca Raton, FL - The NYT reported Saturday that in a meeting between Biden and 15 rabbis in Florida – meant to bolster the Jewish community’s support of the presidential campaign – the vice president was asked about the Obama administration’s reluctance to release Pollard, who was imprisoned in 1986, after he was convicted of spying for Israel.

“President Obama was considering clemency, but I told him, ‘Over my dead body are we going to let him out before his time.’ If it were up to me, he would stay in jail for life,” U.S. Vice President Joe Biden was quoted as saying during a meeting with rabbis in Florida in a New York Times article published on Saturday.

The Times article reported that U.S. President Barack Obama has turned to Biden to shore up support amongst U.S. Jews.

According to the Times article, Democratic party officials believe that Obama will not lose the support of U.S. Jews, especially after Obama’s pro-Israel speech at the United Nations last week.

Concerns were raised, however, by the Republican victory last month in an election for Congressional seat in a district of New York with many Orthodox Jews.

The Democratic loss in that election led the Obama administration to enlist a number of well-known officials, including Biden, with good ties with Jewish leaders to work to ensure Jewish support for Obama in the 2012 presidential election.

I don't believe it for a second. Obama sent Biden to say this. If Obama thought that it would help him shore up the Jewish vote by freeing pollard, he wouldn't give a flying falafel what Biden felt. I don't think Biden would even tell Obama such a thing.

Sounds like Obama & Co. are just another term of the Bush presidency. Anti-settlements, pro- 1967 borders, anti-Pollard, kissing up to the Saudi Arabians.

Where's the change?

If Obama was smart, he would dump Joe Biden, and choose a different Vice Presidential candidate to run with him in 2012. The latter action is not without precedent. In 1972, Sen. McGovern removed Sen. Eagleton from the Vice Presidential ticket. In 1976, President Ford removed V.P. Nelson Rockefeller from the ticket. FDR did the same thing, as he had more than one V.P. There is no constitutional requirement for the President to run with the same incompetent V.P., especially someone who continuously shows a lack of intelligence, and is constantly placing his foot in his mouth.

This is why Biden is usually kept holed up where he can't open his mouth and do any damage. His job is to be white, and let Obama do the talking.

The mystery here is, that so many officials, who are seemingly sympathetic to Jewish causes refuse to consider clemency for Jonathan Pollard. What is more puzzling is that none of them will be specific and state exactly for what offense he deserves such a long sentence. Even longer than any others who spied for the old Soviet Union. Like (Former Admiral) John Walker, who has been paroled long ago.

In case you haven't been aware, there are many yidden who support Biden's position that someone like Pollard who betrayed his nation for money should not be released.

Stop with the anti-Semitism garbage anytime someone says something you don't like. We just show our immaturity and lack of substance when our first instinct always seems to be name-calling. And stop making an opportunistic spy-for-hire into a Jewish hero

You are WRONG. John Walker is still in prison. He's eligible for parole in 2015, at which point he'll have served for 30 years. The ignorance and lies spread by the Pollard supporters never fails to astonish.

Walker is currently BOP Prisoner number 22449-037 and is incarcerated at Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) in Terre Haute.[17] He is said to be suffering from diabetes and stage IV throat cancer.[citation needed] His earliest possible parole date is May 20, 2015, at which point he will have served 30 years in prison.

Suppose Obama sees trouble getting elected because of the economy. He announces that it's time for a woman to run the show, and he suggests Hillary Clinton as the Democratic candidate for president, with himself as maybe vice-president or SecState. She could serve one or two terms and then he could run again later for his second term. Yeah, they thought it was a little out there at shul today.

That idiot is so proud of himself and his stupidity he took credit for it all by himself. Obama didn't tell him to say anything, he did it all by his stupid self. Any Jew contributing to their campaign deserves to throw their money down the toilet.

OK, we will stop when you give us an answer as to WHY over his dead body he won't release Pollard. He isn't a Jewish hero, but he isn't a villain either and he deserves clemency. Lets make him no different from any of his counterparts. OK? In that case he deserves the same clemency or parole that his counterparts in the same situation got especially because of his illnesses and not harsher treatment. Did we hear a VP say in regard to any other similar prisoner "NOT over their dead body would they be released"? Lets compare apples to apples and then tell us not to use the anti-Semitism garbage. Biden is a proud card carrying member of the Anti-semitism movement as is his partner BO.

Did he also have surgeries while in prison? Was he also sent back from the hospital before the appropriate recommended time without his pain medication? I am only questioning because I spread pro Pollard hero status and expect all prisoners to be treated to excruciating pain and humiliation equal to that of Pollard where even his own guard had to beg for him.

And of course this policy will endear the current administration to the numb and dumb Jews of America who voted for them last time!

Exactly. This a "good cop bad cop" story. Neither of them is any good for Jews.

Pollard is "not a villain"? Really? He is a traitor to his country. Evidence shows he was happy to sell our secrets to anyone who wanted them and he even shopped it around. Crimes like Pollards could have been met with the death penalty. He got off EASY. But apparently that's not easy enough for people like you.

He is nothing more than a filthy stain on our community.

Pollard got a lesser sentence than he deserved and should be thankful for that.

FYI: Those who oppose early release for Pollard are not antisemites. In fact, you will find that MOST Conservative and "right wing" Orthodox Jews in this country are as vehement in their opposition to early release for Pollard.

If you really think Obama or Biden are "antisemetic", you have your head in the sand and have lost your grasp on reality.

iI have to agree with Sherree, the sentence dished out to Pollard could only be seen as antisemetic at the time. It was Casper Weinberger (the son of a meshimud) who was behind this sentence. Up untill now it is unknown why they gave him such a tough sentence compared to other spies who spied for enemy countries.

So lets vote someone new in!!! Don't vote the same old in if they are going to do the same old stuff! Time to look at all these RNC candidates, or maybe the DNC should pick someone to run in a primary against Obama... I know I wont be voting for this fool again.

If you are so sure about "the ignorance and lies" how I give you two names (I have more but I don't want to confuse you with too many facts). These people were convicted of spying for our enemy, not an ally (like Israel was and is still). They either got smaller sentences or were paroled after shorter time spans...

David Henry Barnett (1933–1993), was a CIA officer who was convicted of espionage for the Soviet Union in 1980, He was sentenced to 18 years’ imprisonment and was paroled in 1990. (THAT MEANS HE ONLY SERVED 10 years).

William Peter Kampiles- Was a CIA clerk who stole a top-secret KH-11 spy satellite manual and sold it to the USSR. He was originally sentenced to 40 years imprisonment; however, his prison sentence was later reduced to 19 years, and he was released on 16 December 1996, after serving 18 years.

I'm not one of those impulsive Pollard supporters. My contention is, that he Must have done something very wrong against this country, beside the publicly known charges against him. And, that he deserves a long prison sentence. But, the mystery still remains why those officials who are adamantly against freeing him after so many years in prison, will not come out with specific additional charges against him. As for John Walker. I distinctly remember the judge freeing him. Albeit under conditions.

You may "distinctly remember the judge freeing" John Walker, but that's an indictment of your faulty memory. It's amazing how people prefer clinging to myths when a simple Google check will tell you Walker is seving a 30-year sentence. He was never freed.
