Tel Aviv – Israeli police say a man whose parents and siblings were killed in a terror attack has defaced a memorial to slain Israel leader Yitzhak Rabin to protest the proposed release of a Palestinian prisoner linked to the attack.

Police said Friday that the man, identified as Shvuel Schijveschuurder, splattered paint on the former prime minister’s memorial in Tel Aviv and scrawled the words “price tag” across it. Rabin was assassinated at a peace rally in 1995.
The man’s parents and at least three of his siblings were among 15 people killed in a 2001 suicide bombing at a Jerusalem restaurant. He was released from custody Friday afternoon and banned by authorities from entering Tel Aviv for two weeks.
Earlier this week, Israeli and Palestinian officials announced an agreement on a prisoner swap plan that calls for the release of 1,027 Palestinian inmates in exchange for captured Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit. News reports say the releases could begin as early as Tuesday.
I disagree strongly with the prisoner exchange but what does vandalizing a memorial to Rabin Z’tl have to do with a decision by the current government and Netanyahu to release these terrorists. He should demonstrate at Netanyahu’s office. I don’t understand how he could be released from prison so quickly with no punishment. No wonder there is no respect for the law in EY.
I think that anyone who has had a family member killed by a terrorist should be given the utmost sympathy. I’m not saying that I’m not glad that Gilad Shalit is (hopefully) being released; I am. But, what we have to deal with emotionally now is almost inhumane. We’re so happy for the Shalits and so sad and mortified for all the people who have lost families to the arab murderers. As I keep saying; the arabs are insidious. They not only kill us, but they make us fight with each other and feel feelings that we should’t have to feel.
I can’t blame him for his anger but there is no good answer to this situation. We can’t just ignore the fact that Shalit would die of old age in some dirty cell if this prison exchange did not happen. One thing that should be considered is an official Israeli law that bans any future prisoner swaps for kidnapped Israelis, and future IDF soldiers should be taught to accept such a burden without awaiting these types of negotiation deals. We will only see and learn whether the terrorists released will pose any greater security risk to Israel than in the past.
people please. they are all terrorists. whats 1000 more ?
It’s obviously not ok to vandalize and deface the memorial. But I think we have to have at least a little compassion for someone who – at a tender age – lost BOTH parents and three siblings. None of us knows if we would have handled the sitatuation any better.
This guy had at least 4 members killed, how can anyone blame him whether it makes sense or not.
secondly, these terrorists should have been threatened and forewarned that any misbehavior they are caught with (even when not achieved) means some form of punishment to their entire family( such as house flattened or family imprisoned)
a little compassion for someone who – at a tender age – lost BOTH parents and three siblings,Raboin was a rasha who had tons of jewish blood on his hands just like the other old school zionist “statesmen”. any look at his past would reveal th
