Washington - Although Israeli Jews might not be the best bet for electoral college votes in the upcoming US presidential elections, President Barack Obama’s popularity is on the rise in Israel.

In a survey conducted in mid-November by Dr. Shibley Telhami, a nonresident senior fellow at the Saban Center for Middle East Policy at the Brookings Institution, Jews and Arabs alike expressed concerns regarding Iran’s nuclear program, although concern is much higher among the Israeli population.

While in 2010, fewer than half of Israeli Jews polled expressed favorable views of Obama, 54 percent of Israelis expressed a favorable view of the American president. Thirty- nine percent expressed negative views, the same percentage that say that they are discouraged by the administration’s policy in the Middle East.

Despite support for Obama, only 22% of Israeli Jews said that they are encouraged by the administration’s Middle East policies. Less than onethird (23%) believe that the Netanyahu government’s policies have a positive effect upon US-Israeli relations, while 29% believe that their effect is negative.

Israeli Jews prioritize policies toward the Arab-Israeli conflict as the number one issue in assessing American foreign policy, followed by aid to Israel, with policy toward Iran ranking third. Israeli Jews are almost evenly divided as to whether an attack should be launched against Iran’s nuclear facilities, with 43% supporting one and 41% – a dead heat considering the poll’s 4.4 percentage point margin of error – opposing one. In contrast, 68% of Arab Israeli citizens oppose such an attack, and 4% support it.

Although 90% of Israelis believe that Iran will develop nuclear weapons, the majority – 65% – would rather see a nonproliferation situation in which neither Iran nor Israel have nuclear weapons rather than a situation in which both do.

Telhami’s study emphasized that by a ratio of two to one, Israeli Jews support an agreement that would make the Middle East a nuclearweapon- free zone, including Iran and Israel, with a system of full inspections of all facilities where nuclear components are built or stored.

In contrast, only 47% of Arab Israelis believe that Iran is developing nuclear weapons while 38% believe its nuclear program is peaceful.

Forty-eight percent, however, are concerned that that a nuclear Iran would be negative for the Middle East. Only 17% say it would be positive.

While 53% of Arab Israelis say Iran has a right to pursue its nuclear program and should not be pressured, 32% say it should be pressured to stop it.

The poll is being released in conjunction with the eighth annual Saban Forum, taking place December 2 through December 4 in Washington.

The theme of this year’s Saban Forum is “Strategic Challenges in the New Middle East.”

Wow, I didn't even have to wait for a long-list of posters on here, before somebody ALREADY made a comment about Obama being a "secret Muslim"! (lol)

Well, according to the poll... some Jews are actually waking up & are choosing to find more reputable sources for their information, rather than listening to Glenn Beck's Apocalyptic nonsense, or Sean Hannity's blathering in defense of OBVIOUS morally-deficient people, as you seem to be doing!

After 3 years of major drone-dropping, kills & captures of some of the WORST Arabs in our current history, after helping to arm Israel to the "T", after promising (& KEEPING that promise) to defend Israel against a Palestinian statehood bid & everything else he's done...

You'd think some people would ALREADY have accepted the obvious by now!

But if you hate him, you're going to make up CONSPIRACY theories, about rigged polls, fake voting & everything else to deny what's happening right in front of your face. Whatever it takes to oppose him- even if it's not rational! (lol)

*shaking my head* This kind of baseless hatred of our President will only get you one thing: 4 more years of him!

Because this "secret Muslim" theory is getting OLD.

(1) Your childish, grammatically-challenged, high school-level posts are too long. This is especially grating given the intellectually weak content, and the stunningly low idea-to-word ratio, in everything you write.

(2) In addition to your puerile writing level, you are also evidently afflicted with an inability to read well. Poster #1 made no assertion whatsoever regarding Obama's personal religious beliefs.

My bad! I can admit when I make a mistake... I got no problems doing that. I believed the poster was referencing the President, NOT Dr. Shibly Telhami. My apologies to poster #1. (However, the conspiracy theory nonsense still stands- this sort of stuff in reference to ANYTIME Obama is surging in ANY poll, really *is* getting tiresome! So if he's doing lousy in a poll, it's correct? But if he does well... it must have been rigged? Regardless of *who* does the poll, I often find this to be the case!)

Also, as for my weak-content, poster #5, what did I say in my previous post that wasn't true? President Obama has shown no signs of being an anti-semite, nor has he somehow not been a friend to Israel, during his Presidency. And yet, stop & think about where these rumors come from!

And I'd list the ways in which he's actually helped Israel... but in the interests of keeping my post shorter *wink* & considering you probably aren't interested in hearing about what he's done for Israel anyway, I won't bother!

I might also add that I frequently find, that when someone actually lists *facts* about President Obama on here... most posters who oppose him, really can't say much to back up why they hate him so terribly!

The original poster who initially supports him, gets told their a "Rhino", or a "Communist", or a "self-hating Jew", or a "No-hide Shiksa" (that ones my favorite- lol)...

I mean, what are any of you who oppose him, saying that's so substantiative or even TRUE in most cases?!

Either you attack the poster, or you name-call!

So please poster #5. Why don't you enlighten us w\your opinions about Obama rising in the polls? Do you have *anything* to say about that, or did you just come on to criticize?

Because I'm beginning to think that's all most people want to do on here!
