No store has struggled with the barricades more than the Milk Street Cafe at 40 Wall St., which laid off 21 workers at the height of the protests in late October and on its last leg.

“Unless we get a Hail Mary, it’s a matter of days, maybe a week or two,” Marc Epstein, the cafe’s owner, said Wednesday.

While the NYPD removed some of the barricades several weeks ago, many still block off sections of Wall and Broad streets near the New York Stock Exchange, and downtown businesses are not happy.

The Milk Street Cafe, a kosher international food hall which opened in June, lost 30 percent of its sales after the anti-greed protests started in September.

Where is Mike Bloomberg now. He will let a legitimate business go under because some communists who don’t want to work but to have everything handed to them run amok in this City. You are making John Lindsay and David Dinkens look like good mayors.

What is with a kosher restaurant owner talking about hail mary’s?

The owner should sue the city and the individuals (leaders) of Occupy Wall Street

When a “kosher” cafe is looking for a “Hail Mary” to be the yeshuah, it’s an even greater struggle to cross the mechitza shel barzel and enter for a kosher meal.

Well Sherry, you should be thrilled now. That corporate greedy business owner got his comeuppance!

    Dear Marc,
Everything is from Hashem. Success in a business is solely attributed to the brochos that Hashem gives us. Perhaps, if you were to decide to make your business Cholov Yisroel, so that everyone could come into your place, and you could be mezake the rabbim, you could reverse the gezeirah that befell your store.
Wish you only hatzlacha in the future,
    Chani

Marc Epstein must be a football fan (which I am not). The term is used in football for a pass which is done in desperation to keep a team alive. I guess he then was comparing his unfortunate situation to that of of a team doing something desperate to stay alive or in his case stay in business.
Amazing what one can learn from looking up an expression on the internet.

this is very serious. if any of you read this weeks jewish press there was a small article and photos of a new food pantry that met council has opened up on the lower east side. the food being given out there is being donated by the milk street cafe. if this place goes under many frum yidden will not have that food to get from the pantry.
this is a domino effect. we need to patronize them any which way we can. we need to shout to bloomberg that those brarricades MUST come down!!!

The restaurant was way too big from the start. Perhaps. The owner can get a smaller space and concentrate on fleishig.

Communist groups like the geriatric Raging Grannies who joined the OWS protestors are guilty. May their children’s businesses suffer the same fate.

What is the big tzimmis with the term “Hail Mary”. The term was explained by Allan (#10); therefore, stop degrading Mr. Epstein, for his choice of words.

    Sherry,

I assume this was the whole purpose. Right? To put multiple people out of work, & close down a perfectly good business.

Is this what the OWS protesters wanted? Or let me ask you a better question, do they even “know” what they wanted?!?!

The definite answer is a resounding “N-O”.

    To
prove my point, these yo-yo’s are gone from there, & have yet to re-group!!

    They need a mental asylum.

Chani who are you to say that there is a gezeirah against his store because of Cholov Yisroel .Do you know that this man donates all his extra food to help feed the poor Jewish ppl who do not have food for their families. What is wrong with all the ppl commenting here about hail mary’s or other stupidity there is someone about to lose his business that only does good for all of us maybe patronize him or at least do not make stupid comments

The Angelic Salutation, Hail M…, or Ave M….(Latin) is a traditional biblical Catholic prayer asking for the intercession of the M…, the mother of J…. Perhaps the restaurant owner misspoke, but I could think of a more appropriate expression for someone catering to the kosher crowd. #2 is correct to suggest this is a “colloquialism”. But anyone whose “colloquialisms” are of this ilk should perhaps be catering to a different crowd.

The place serves meat and dairy in the same room at the same time and the meat and dairy are eaten at the same tables. No wonder the owner wants hashgacha from mary.

Thanks, stenchbaggers! Please keep it up!

With every one of your actions, more and more regular Americans see you for what you and your supporters are. This simply makes regular Americans more determined to vote out of office the Fraud-in-Chief, B. Hussein Obama, next November.

Stock up on your sedatives now, stenchbaggers and other Obama supporters – you’ll need them next November.

Ummmm Sherry, so OWS wanted to “save” small business? Well, they sure got THAT wrong, didn’t they? That’s their version of “justice” I guess.

Are you Charlie Hall in a dress? He’s been off the radar for quite a while & all of a sudden, you’re here. It’s the commie thing coming out, you see.

I’m not a sports fan & I have absolutely no interest in or knowledge of football so I wouldn’t know the reference. When I first read it I also wondered why a Yid would say such a thing. Don’t be so quick to insult people whose first reaction was “HUH?????” Not all of us are “educated” in what really matters: football. Some of us don’t think tossing a ball around & behaving inappropriately in locker rooms is worth spending time on.

Thanks, Allen, for your explanation. I appreciate you enlightening us.

A hail marry is an American expression and a colorful way of saying a long shot. Get over it

I’m a bit confused. It only opened last June – who is to say it would have lasted anyway?
