New York – RCA And OU Join In Condemning Extremist Violence In Beit Shemesh

    23

Eight years old girl, Naama Margolese walks with her mother on her way to school in Beit Shemesh. Dec 29, 2011. Naama has been the new focal point of a religious war in Israel after being harassed by a group of ultra-Orthodox extremists while she walked to school. Photo by Kobi Gideon / Flash90.New York – The Rabbinical Council of America and the Orthodox Union join together to strongly and unambiguously condemn the recent violence and intimidation committed by segments of the Jewish community in Beit Shemesh, Israel. As the largest body of Orthodox Rabbis, and the largest organization of Orthodox Synagogues, respectively, we call upon all involved to return to the peaceful ways of our sacred Torah and to respect the dignity of all human beings. It should be clear to all that this hateful activity does not represent Judaism.

We also urge all observers to recognize that the behavior of these hooligans does not in any way represent the attitude or demeanor of the Charedi community at large. The vast majority of Charedi Jews find these actions abhorrent, and the community should not be judged by the inexcusable conduct of a few.

Finally, as Rabbis and national congregational leaders we support the right and the duty of Israel’s police to act with the full force of the law in putting an end to these illegal, and dangerous, activities.

Why no condemnation for the secular extremists on the media incitement against ALL frum Jews?

It’s a nice statement, but none of the hooligans in Beit Shemesh even know what the OU or RCA organizations are, and they if they did know they wouldn’t care what they had to say on the matter.

First normal codemnation heard! they condemn ALL violence from all parties! not a one sided voice like the other few that made their way only to tease charedim by condemning so called ‘charedi” violence, and at the same time ignoring the violence & attacks performed by the secular groups towards the frum, giving the silent ok for secular or datis to attack charedim, and only condemn charedim when some incident happens by them against the seculars.
    Thanks OU and RCA.

My 8 year old daughter fears going out in the street on Shabbos in Boro Park because I sent her with a baby carriage with my other daughter for a walk. A monster of a so called chassidishe yid screamed on her as well as other “Mechaallehu Mos Yumos”, that she should have a miserable death because she carried in the eruv. If he doesn’t want to carry fine.
But what right does anyone have to attack verbally young children and women when they are carrying.

Some of these posts are amazing. It seems that the frum community is incapable of facing extremism without playing the victim card. Why is that we cannot simply point to radical behavior and say “This is wrong! We condemn this!” Is it so hard?! What childish and immature hang up do we have that we have follow it with “but I am a victim, everyone hates me”. It is a tired and pathetic song.

    Thank you.

You know, for the first few days after the story broke, I was writing numerous posts condemning these “zealots” and explaining the major Chillul Hashem that they are creating. But after reading scores of articles in the secular media, and after seeing who actually showed up to the “massive” protest, I realized that the media could not care less about the “Hadras Nashim” per se, they’re out on a full fledged war against ALL Chareidim. Consequently, I feel silly continuing to disassociate myself and condemning these “zealots”, because I have come to realize that the media is against us ALL, and this whole “Hadras Nashim” issue is just a good starting point for them.

Don’t get me wrong, I have not changed my position even one bit regarding these “zealots”, I still think that they are nut-jobs and should be jailed. What I’m trying to say, is that I feel that when I’m taking so serious whatever the media writes about ANY Chareidim I’m simply playing into their ploy.

We have to stop the violence, simply because it’s WRONG, and if the media wants to be Machanech anybody, they should start in their own backyard!

The RCA and OU are modern orthodox organizations and have a different philosophy then the Orthodox who are they to disrespect and condemn the teaching of the Orthodox especially when they have not discussed it with the Orthodox Gedolim. I don’t think you will ever see Orthodox Gedolim doing this to the modern Orthodox.
It tells me that the hate to fellow Jews starts at the top.

When Hitler took over Austria in Vienna Hitler Youth or HJ did the same thing when they recognized a Jewish teen or smal child first they spat on the child and then beat itup. So some progression in Beit Shemesh he only spat on an 8 year girl. Close up the Yad Vashem and return the millions of Dollar to Germany which flowed into Israel. I witnessed it and shame for calling themselve Jews.
