Orange County, Monroe, NY +Village Mayor in Police Custody+ New York State Police have taken into police custody the Village of Monroe Mayor Jhon Karl III for assaulting a local builder from the Village of Kiryas Joel with a metal water key pipe at Orchard Hill Road. Police say for now he is in custody only for questioning about the scuffle.
Kiryas Joel Hatzolah Ambulance Services are on the scene for the aided, who hasn’t sustained serious injuries.
The mayor has been brought into the New York State police barracks, and the aided was transported to the hospital.
The confrontation occurred after Karl tried to turn off the water turned on by the developer Abe Goldberger at the newly constructed home called Orchard Hill Estates. Goldberger had apparently violated the village’s water regulations because he had not correctly installed a booster station for the water, said Village of Harriman Mayor Stephen Welle.
Water for Orchard Hill Estates, located in the Town of Monroe, is supplied by the Village of Harriman.
Karl was not handcuffed during his time in police custody and he left the state police barracks about 22:15 with no charges filed and state police consider the matter closed.
“If this could happen to me it could happen to anyone,” Karl said. “I’m hungry, I just want to go home and have some dinner.”
