Brooklyn, NY - Reports that Yoni Hikind, son of New York State Assemblyman Dov Hikind, is contemplating a run for the senate seat that will serve the proposed newly created “Super Jewish” Senate District have been dismissed as completely unfounded by the senior Hikind, who says he has no idea how the rumors regarding his son got started.

“I wish I could convince Yoni to run for public office,” said Hikind in an exclusive interview with VIN News.  “They don’t make them more sincere, more honest and more passionate than Yoni and I hope that one day I can encourage him to use those abilities as a public official.  But he has only one interest at this point in time - devoting his life to saving Jewish kids. Yoni has no interest in any political office at this point in time.”

Thirty one year old Yoni Hikind, a Brooklyn therapist, is heavily involved with Yeshiva Simchas Chaim, a school that serves at risk teens.  The school is now in its third year and Assemblyman Hikind had nothing but praise for his son.

“He brings kids home to my house on Shabbos all the time.  What he is doing is truly remarkable and I couldn’t be prouder.”

“My father was rather accurate in what he told VIN News, I am a social worker; and three years ago, I started an alternative yeshiva for teenagers who struggled in mainstream yeshiva’s. Yoni Hikind told VIN News, “I am currently completely focused on my work at the Yeshiva and my priority and all of my time is dedicated to working with these boys from the school.”

Sounds like a made up PR piece. No one thought such a thing, except perhaps Dov.

Mr. Hikind I don't know your son, but if he's half as good as his father he should definitely run for a public office, we need politicians as productive as yourself, whenever someone needs something he knows he can turn to your office it doesn't matter if its on state level or city level, so please do what's right for yourself, but even if that doesn't fit for yourself, do it for our community!!!

I agree. Sounds like a PR piece. But if you follow the trail of where this information was posted first, it is doubtful that Dov is behind this, but perhaps someone else with a different agenda.

Last I heard, America is not a monarchy. I'm sure Mr. Hikind's son is a fine young man doing important work for our youth at risk. However, there are older more experienced askanim mmore qualified

as the assemblyman said "I wish I could convince Yoni to run for public office,”.... so does the Jewish community. while it is unknown where the first reports came from this does sound like a very good idea so despite the fact that yoni has "no interest in political office at this time" as the article says, hopefully Dov will be succesful in getting him to change his mind!
