Al-Qaeda founder and leader Osama Bin Laden was killed on 01 May 2011 in Abbottabad, Pakistan by US forces. The compound in Abbottabad, 61 kilometers north-east of Islamabad, was seized by Pakistani authorities following the raid and was pulled down to prevent it becoming a shrine for radical Islamists.
