Israeli boys get assistance from fire fighters as they extinguish small fires in their elementary school yard in Jerusalem, Israel, 20 February 2012, during an earthquake preparedness drill. Israel, along with Jordan and Lebanon, are on the Levant Fault, which is an extension of the Rift Valley in Africa, and experiences about a dozen small tremors last year. Two major earthquakes have struck northern Israel in the past two centuries, the worst one striking in 1837, killing 4,000 people and destroyed the northern town of Safed and nearby Arab villages.
