Representatives of the workers of Alcoa’s Sardinian smelter were to meet at the Ministry of Economic Development for talks on the plant’s future. Alcoa started the shut-down of the plant 01 September, while efforts are underway to find a buyer for the loss-making unit. The plant employs some 500 workers on the island, marred by an unemployment rate of 15 per cent.
