Location: YONGIN, Korea
April 27, 2012

Quarantine officials check US beef imports at a logistics center in Yongin, south of Seoul, South Korea, 27 April 2012 amid reports of an outbreak of mad cow disease in the United States. Opposition parties and civic organizations are calling for the government to immediately stop the import of US beef as a case of mad cow disease was recently confirmed in California. Following the latest outbreak, the Seoul government decided not to suspend US beef imports but to increase quarantine checks, insisting it would immediately stop imports if the disease poses threats to public health.
