Afghans Police take position to disperse people who gathered to protest against the alleged Koran burning by US troops, in Kabul, Afghanistan, 22 February 2012. Thousands of Afghans protested for the second day the ‘burning of the Koran’ by NATO-led troops, officials and eyewitnesses said. Protests erupted in different parts of Kabul city and also in the eastern city of Jalalabad and the western city of Herat, Afghan officials said. On 20 February, foreign troops ‘improperly disposed’ of Islamic religious materials, including copies of the Koran, at the Bagram air base, according to the NATO-led coalition.
