Thousands of emergency workers and ordinary citizens across Central Europe were battling floodwaters amid fears that the death toll of 13 would rise as the region’s rivers reach historic highs. The floods - which have engulfed an area stretching from southern Germany to Poland, Switzerland, the Czech Republic and Austria - have also left several people missing and led to mass evacuations after days of torrential rain triggered the surging floodwaters.
