Bahraini authorities detained Civil Rights activist Nabeel Rajab, a holder of the Ratiu Democracy Award, following an attempted march in the capital 31 March 2012 as clashes broke out between police and protesters. Clashes had also earlier broken out between police and mourners in the Salmabad village after a 23-year-old citizen, journalist Ahmed Ismaeel, was shot to death during a protest on 30 March night.
