Brooklyn, NY – In Op-Ed Charedi Newspaper Slams Councilman Fidler

    17

Brooklyn, NY – Brooklyn’s Jewish press has not been overly nice to Democratic Councilman Lew Fidler in the last two days. Yesterday, COMMUNITY Magazine converted itself to an almost cover-to-cover advertisement for his opponent in his campaign for the State Senate, and today, one of the most influential newspapers in the district, Hamodia, wrote a fairly scathing editorial as well.

Underneath the front-page headline “Scandalous Claims,” the newspaper’s editor went after Mr. Fidler for insufficiently supporting tuition relief for the district’s yeshivas while boosting his Republican opponent, David Storobin. ”In truth, Storobin’s conservative qualifications appear solid,” he wrote. “But for Fidler to claim the conservative mantle, in support of funding for yeshivos, is just scandalous, say people involved in yeshivah aid.”

Anyone who supports toieva I can’t support because when the moral of the people go down so does the limud hatorah & the tzedakah & if limud hatorah goes down what sustains our gedolim? Any wonder all of our elder Rosh Yeshivas have passed away since this bill was passed? (Rabbi Kopelman, Rabbi Stein)

It is totally inconceivable for any Frume person to vote for this guy when his opponent Mr .Storobin endorses our values. The Gedolei Yisroel have endorsed Mr. Storobin and everyone in his Senatorial District should support him the way they supported Congressman Turner.

I fail to understand how our community can focus on just one issue regarding a candidate who is running for a legislative position. Certainly this gay issue is only one of many positions of candidates that must be considered. I assume that the State Legislature deals with more issues than so called marriage equality.

I want to know if either one of these candidates will fight to bring back the X-29 Bus. If not, I won’t vote for either of them!

Honestly, I could care less whether mr. fidler supports gay marriage or not. its not the only issue we should talk about. but what bothers me even more is the phony. just come out and say that I am not orthodox, I believe in whatever. don’t pander to us. don’t give us all the lie political slogans.

and by the way, what transportation bill that he claims he passed in the city council is he talking about? last time I checked, I pay $200 a month for my son’s yeshiva transportation? does anyone know what bill he passed? am I missing something?

another piont. I just read that mr. fidler is a politian for over 10 years. why have we never seen him or heard from him in the last ten years? all of a sudden they are changing his district (from liberal to conservative) he comes running to boro park pandering to us that he was fight for us the last ten years.

mr. fidler WE ARE SMARTER THAN YOU THINK. WE KNOW WHATS GOING ON

I am sorry, but as a OJ, I am ashamed at this movement to defame Mr. Fidler.

The orthodox community should get ready for major disappointment. Losing the opportunity to inject a familiar and oppositional voice into the fray of State Politics is a misstep that will have so many consequences. David, while passionate, is a neophyte with little political acumen and is sure to lose footing and the bearing of his moral compass quickly upon his arrival.

These two people are the same amount “Jewish”, Lew davens regularly at Beth Sholom of Kings Bay, with Rabbi Segal, and David put on a Yarmulke and posed for photos with Tokarsky the day he decided to run.

Lew is a TRUE friend of the Agudah, the organization that has foolishly abandoned their longtime ally in the City Council. Additionally, let’s not forget, should the Jewish District be drawn as planned, the community will be looking elsewhere for a more “authentic” Jew come November.

As to the commentor who asked where he’s been? Either you’ve been living under a rock, don’t live in his district or are a master at concealing sarcasm.

unless it is an extraordinary case, Jews should vote GOP in local and national elections. it is nuts not to do so.
