Eli Beer was one of two Israelis chosen from a pool of thousands of nominees under age forty to be recognized for outstanding leadership, professional accomplishment and commitment to society. This year’s honorees were selected from a committee chaired by Queen Rania Al Abdullah of Jordan, representing fifty nine different countries and diverse sectors of society including business, politics, the arts, social entrepreneurs and media. Previous honorees have included David Cameron, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Larry Page, co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Google and Mark Zuckerberg, creator of Facebook.

This year’s newly named Young Global Leaders join the Forum of Young Global Leaders which currently has over seven hundred members and will meet in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico on April 14th through 18th to network, share information, learn from each other in order to better understand global challenges and use this knowledge to enhance their own roles as leaders of society. Young Global Leaders remain part of the forum for a period of five years after which time they are eligible to apply for membership in the Young Global Leaders Alumni Community. They have the opportunity to work in close cooperation with the World Economic Forum, a world financial leader whose annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland attracts over two thousand world leaders including heads of state, cabinet ministers, senior officials of international organizations, ambassadors and business and religious leaders. Regular attendees at the Davos meeting, which in the past has also drawn the likes of Henry Kissinger and Nelson Mandela, include Al Gore, Bill Clinton, Bill Gates and Tony Blair.

Beer looks forward to interacting with the other Young Global Leaders and hopes to both learn from the other members as well as share his knowledge with them.

“I think that this is a great opportunity to show others what we have accomplished here with Hatzala,” Beer told VIN News. “I would love for others to duplicate our model all over the world. Millions of people die unnecessarily every year because they don’t have access to emergency medical care.”

Beer also has plans to travel to South America in order to share his expertise with other emergency medical services.

“Both Panama and Brazil have their own Hatzala and I hope to help them out,” said Beer. “There is also a group on non-Jews in Venezuela who have a group that is similar to Hatzala and I will work with them as well. I hope that the idea of an Orthodox Jew traveling to South America to help both Jews and non Jews with their volunteer emergency corps will make a huge Kiddush Hashem. More than anything else, I want to demonstrate to those people who think that Israel is a bad place how much we want to help others, because this is just what Jews do.”

Meanwhile, New York State Senator Eric Adams and over twenty VIP personnel including elected government officials and members of New York state law enforcement, joined together Thursday to present Beer with a special citation from the State Senate, as exemplary service person of 2012.

The New York State Senate’s Homeland Security and Transportation committees recognize one person each year for their groundbreaking work and visionary leadership.

What a kiddush HaShem! Not necessarily for getting the recognition, but for doing what he does.
