Police are set to write nearly 300,000 fewer tickets for moving violations this fiscal year than they did the year before, reports The New York Post.

Should the current trend continue through the end of fiscal year 2012 on June 30, the final number of tickets would total less than one million — and the city would generate $16.5 million in revenue, down from $25.6 million in 2011.

They are “loosing” all this money? Was the money too tight before?
Please, a little respect for the language. You mean “losing” . As in, “Rangers Lose to Devils”.

The city simply wants them to write and write until the book remains with its two covers with no paper left in it. But every normal person, including a police officer will eventually stop writing for those who don’t deserve to get one. Maybe now they’ll hire additional police officers.

Good news. I agree to comment #1 . You see that the point of these tickets are just for revenue!! Shame on you, Mr. Mayor!!

I remember like today, when Bloomberg campaigned in Boro Park, and promised to lower all our expenses, oh yeah, like property taxes and parking tickets…

What a joke… Biggest Liar ever!

I just wonder the reason why the traffic tickets have declined. Is it because of people are more aware not to park illegal? Or did they fight the tickets? Or are there just fewer cops giving out these tickets?

Either way, this is good news, and let’s hope it’s only get better!

This is a good thing and not just because of the obviouis reason. There were many questionable tickets that were written due to pressure from on top. After all of the investigations into ticket-fixing, the police officers themselves are being more careful about which summonses get written.

Came in from Canada, and stuck out an inch too much at the corner; while my three year old went to the bathroom. I was slapped with one hundred fifteen Dollor fine. I like to spend in NYC, but this incident kept me away for a while. Will give it another try, always Love NY!

They are writing fewer tickets is to get back at the DA because of the incident when the DA was arrested for DWI in the bronx the cop who arrested her got a lot of slack, to get back at the NYPD the DA was releasing a lot of criminals back to the streets, so tickets are down but crime is up.
Heard this from a NYPD cop.

Some of us would summarize the story a bit differently, namely that NYC residents are now nine million dollars richer.
