According to reports released by the State Department of Agriculture and Markets, an inspection on Tuesday found mice running around in the store, along with mouse droppings in the food aisles and products with chew marks on them.

Three previous inspections at the store this year found thousands of mouse droppings on the floors and on products inside the store.

County Health Officials say a hearing will be scheduled soon, that could revoke the store’s license to process and sell food until it passes its next inspection.

this may help the Yiddishe Grocery stores in Monticello to make a better Parnoshe this summer.
Last week we had in the Parsha “Oiy Kunoy Miyad Amisech” Buy at a Jewish Store is a Big Mitzvah. More then giving him Charity.

Well, the place is nearly deserted all winter long. It is no wonder that mice have taken up residence there.
What never ceases to amaze me is how the management is so totally unprepared for the summer crowd every year! The shelves are cleared of much of the summer stuff in June and not properly restocked until September.

I’m not from the New York area but I find it bizarre that frum yidden would care about a Walmart, much less shop there. Where we live, its generally a place to go for lower income people who cannot afford the high-end heimeshe merchants.

This is amazing. Here in FL, WalMart is in every community. Typically (although I have seen some that were sub-par) they are the cleanest, most well maintained stores in town. As someone who has nothing but the utmost respect for WalMart and the jobs they bring to communities, I am really surprised by this story.

#2 what you are saying isn’t accurate, things there may be slower but far from empty in the non summer months. I have been there many times during the other three seasons and it’s almost the same place minus the large summer crowds…but far from empty.
I would think that heads will roll when upper management reacts to this story. One problem could be the quality of some of the workers hired and management of them. I can’t imagine that the folks back in Bentonville AR will take kindly to this type of situation and the bad press it has generated. This store, with all of it’s summer volume has to be a big money maker for them.

Aren’t you supposed to buy from Jewish stores?

You would think the hasidics would leave walmart alone and support their own little kosher supermarkets that are all over the place. FYI monticello walmart is FAR from deserted in the winter . most crowded supermarket all year, not as busy during the summer which is a given obviously… that goes for any store in summertime! i wonder why the kosher section had fresh mouse droppings hmm

I know this may not have much to do with the article, but it brought up a recent experience I had in Wal Mart regarding our Jewish visitors during the summer. I consider myself a pretty polite person, and smile to strangers and friends alike. I am appalled at the rudeness the women exhibit by not saying “Excuse me” or “Thank you”, when they bump into my cart, or if I let them go ahead of me on line because they have less items. I’m ready to give up. It happens every summer, and recently there was a lovely young Hasidic woman looking at items in the make up isle. I was in no rush, so I waited to pass her, as she had 5 young children with her. I just stood there, and looked around, smiled at the children (who also completely ignored me) and when the mother looked up, she said in the most snotty, rude way possible: “Are you WAITING for me to Move??” I just said, “no, take your time.” and she rolled her eyes, gave me a nasty look and didn’t move. I decided to just turn around the other way. What a lesson to behave that way in front of your children. Treat strangers poorly? What is this all about? I see and experience this all the time. Are these woman supposed do this?
