New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg gave the press a glimpse of his wealth Friday, allowing reporters to look at a redacted mock-up of his tax returns and his annual city financial disclosure.
The documents said Bloomberg donated $311 million to nearly 1,200 charitable organizations in 2011.
He also bought a $20 million estate in the Hamptons and a $4.55 million ranch in Westchester County, expanding an estate there that he already owned. That brings the number of properties owned by the mayor to 11.
Bloomberg made his fortune in the financial information company Bloomberg LP. He lets the media view info from his returns once per year.
