Prosecutor Carlos Robles told The Associated Press on Wednesday that his office is still awaiting a Swiss government report on whether funds that a Swiss partner invested in the American’s rice-growing venture in Bolivia were clean.

Jailed American Jacob Ostreicher and defense lawyer Yimy Montano dispute that. Montano says the report arrived last month but a high-ranking government official prevented it from being entered as evidence. Ostreicher says that official was the ringleader of the alleged corruption ring arrested this week.

Ostreicher has been jailed for 18 months without charge and insists he is innocent.

The fact that the US State department is somehow allowing a foreign government to hold and incarcerate a US citizen; a jew no less, on what seems to be trumped up charges should tell the US voting public that these are the grandchildren of the same state department that did precious little to help the jews during WW 2.

To #3- Yitzchok- While I feel badly for Mr. Ostreicher, and his continued incarceration, I wanted to correct your article. Any time that an American citizen leaves the USA, and travels to a foreign country, he/she has to assume the risk of traveling in a foreign land and hence, be at the mercy of that countries’ laws. There are American citizens who are incarcerated in numerous countries around the globe at this very moment, some in very harsh conditions. Unfortunately, in many of those countries, preventive detention, whereby people are jailed without charges, seems to be the norm. There are even American citizens who are in jail in EY, at present, and vice-versa. Regarding your allegation, that the USA did very little to help Yidden during World, you conveniently forgot to mention that it was the United States Army which liberated a number of concentration camps (i.e. Dachau, Mauthausen), and freed thousands of starving Jews. Also, over 1,000 Jews were brought to Ft. Oswego in upstate NY, in 1944, and allowed to remain after the war. Granted, the number was small, but it was 1,000 more Jews, than Canada allowed to enter its country.

To: Dayan, The US has done much after the war to help displaced persons, among many, there were members of my family that were beneficiaries of this kindness. That said, The US State department knew for years what was going on. History is the witness here not me.

There is very very little that the US government can do in a country as Bolivia that has NO diplomatuc relations with each other.
In fact; because the governents have restraint relations is the prime reason that Ostreicher is treated that way.
It is because he is an American NOT because he is a Jew.
The State Department has placed Bolivia on the list where it recommends (WARNS)US citizens NOT to travel. As well as the list were US citizens are not allowed to travel, ie, Cuba.
