The State Department said Monday that the plans are “especially damaging” to prospects for a resumption in Israeli-Palestinian peace talks and run counter to longstanding U.S. policy.

Israel on Friday announced that it would move ahead on plans to build 3,000 settler homes in the West Bank and east Jerusalem on territory the Palestinians claim as theirs to punish the Palestinians for winning U.N. recognition. It also said it would begin planning work for a chunk of land east of Jerusalem known as E1, where construction would end hopes for an eventual Palestinian state to be contiguous.

State Department spokesman Mark Toner said both sides should stop taking actions that hurt peace efforts.

‘prospects for a resumption in Israeli-Palestinian peace talks’, peace talks what peace talks there aren’t any, if anything it’s ‘piece’ talks, that is whatever the palies can get, piece by piece.

At least to thyself, be honest!

    Too late America.
Obama should’ve flexed American muscle to ‘convince’ the many nations which need our assistance to vote with us last week.
He failed to do that and now has to accept the consequences of his inaction.
    THANK YOU MR. PRESIDENT

All Israel has to do is stop the electricity until the arabs pay up for the millions that they owe. Stop the phones, internet, gas..

The arabs live a great life because they get everything for free. Kill a Jew? More free money from the PA.

I haven’t been the most ardent zionist but after this latest episode at the UN and State Dept remarks like the ones in this article regarding the plans being “especially damaging’ to prospects for a resumption in Israeli-Palestinian peace talks and run counter to longstanding U.S. policy.’ That is a joke! I now realize there is NO plan for peace from the Palis and regret my naivete took me so long to acknowledge this. Only that should be done is build settlements all through the areas A B, & C.

It’s obvious that Obama is orchestrating the UK and French reactions and continues to bludgeon Netanyahu. Netanyahu said the abrogation of its legal commitments by the Palestinian Authority would prompt actions by Israel to secure its rights.

What will we do, as a community, to make our voices heard in protest? Write to your congressman and senator!

Israel needs to ignore world opinion.

“A light unto the nations” – that means leading, not following.

Jews don’t follow others, they lead.

As for the UN, Har Sinai comes from the word “sin’ah”, hatred. The nations hate us for keeping the Torah. Live with it, don’t try to make them happy.

Obama did nothing to sway the vote against the Palestinians. Yes the US voted against but what did they really do to convince all the other nations to vote with them? Sorry Obama, you have no right to stop Israel if you couldn’t stop UN recognition of the Palestinian nation. What you should be saying is the Palestinians brought this on themselves. They knew good and well that this would happen if they continued their quest to the UN, this was a very clear consequence of their mission.

Why shouldn’t the Palestinians try to get UN statehood??

What is the big punishable crime that was done here?

Netanyahu is a fool and you’re all his lackeys.

To #10 -Sheree-Why are you blaming Obama?. He has no control over the 138 nations which voted in the affirmative. In any event, what is so horrible, about the Palestinians having non-voting observer status? The UN has informally recognized the Palestinians, since 1977; therefore, the latest vote is not a big deal. Isn’t it better that they sit at the UN, and “shep nachas” (in their own minds), than to start firing rockets, or sending bombers into EY?

Obama did the right thing. So did Canada, the Czech Republic , Panama and a few small Pacific states.

Don’t blame Obama though, obviously, many here can’t bring themselves to say anything positive about him.

He still supports Israel and they need it.

That being said, I hope they build on every available inch of Jewish land. The Palestinians, as usual, have screwed themselves. Couldn’t happen to a nicer group of shkotzim.

What a shame, the only group in the world that support radicals idealistic settlers movement are us “no-zionists” (except satmar), even the modern orthodox understand that for the sake of the state of Israel we need to give up something, but we chasidim/litvish ( AKA ultra orthodox) we get all excited when bibi passes a law against peace or against Palestinians.
    I’m ashamed with my community
Did we really forgot that we are still in golus? whats going on with us?
