Albany, NY – After Governor Spitzer’s staff’s plan to use the state police against the Senate Republican leader, Joseph Bruno, backfired in a scandal, the governor’s office tried unleashing a different authority against Mr. Bruno — the Internal Revenue Service.

The plan was that, guided by Mr. Spitzer’s office, Democrats in the state Senate would get federal agents to go after Mr. Bruno for taxes they say might be due on the value of several trips on state aircraft that he took to New York City where he conducted mostly political business.
A draft of the letter to the IRS, which was signed by three Democratic state senators, was mistakenly e-mailed to the wrong recipient, landing in the hands of Senate Republicans.
A source said the letter was e-mailed to state Senator Carl Kruger’s office, when it was supposed to go to Senator Liz Krueger. [nysun]
Why doesn’t the Governor have a right to request an IRS review if he believes a crime was committed? The reality is that Bruno used taxpayer money for personal political use. He whitewashed it by having a perfunctory “official business” meeting as well. If the law requires that the portion of the trip that was for personal benefit be taxed – then he should be required to follow the law.
I agree. Spitzer is a total slime. He cares only about himself and advancing himself. He is a disaster and a disgrace.
11:32…no one signed the letter. Re-read the story. The letter was written, sent to three senator and they said no.
Who are the three senators who signed on that letter?
this does not surprise me in the least. spitzer is a madman. I hope he gets indicted & thrown out of office. he always championed himself as the most honest person in the world, & went after wall street recklessly without giving a damn whether the people he was going after were actually guilty of any crime. his sole motivation was to advance himself. he’s a slimebag. i hope the current DA goes after him with the same gusto he went after others.
